Today we want to talk about how to get free from those secret sins.

How to get free from those habitual sins, that we just can’t seem to stop doing.

I mean those sins that we don’t want to tell anyone about, the ones we have made up our mind we are going to take to our grave.

Today i want to give you three consequences from keeping hidden sin.
And then five ways that you can start to break away and get some freedom, so you can start to see some freedom, and move forward in your life.
But first, let’s be clear, and define what a secret sin is.
A secret sin is one that you are going to continue to entertain because it brings you temporary pleasure without anyone else knowing.
A Web site you continually bring up.
A relationship you are trying to keep hidden because you don’t want anyone else to know about it.
Some type of addiction you may be dealing with.
What ever it is, you know in your heart that it is pulling you further away from God.
Here are the three ways that this secret sin is causing havoc in your life.
* SECRET SIN IS DECEPTIVE - What i mean here is, often times when we are dealing with sin in our lives, and we feel like we are actually getting away with it, because the consequences or results of our sin has not caught up with us yet, it’s easy for us to look around and see things still in tact and feel as though everything is alright.
So now we have a false scene of security, to think everything is alright, and i can keep doing what i’m doing, and i’m good.
Sin would have fewer takers, if it’s consequences were immediate.
Because God does not bring the hammer down every time we sin, we sometimes think we are getting away with something.
So, we need to understand that this is deceptive because there is really no such thing as secret sin.
Because everything we do is laid bare before the Lord.
If you have any secret sin in your life, there are some scripture i would like to look at:

23 But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.

7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

It’s easy for us to think because no one on the outside can see what i’m doing, then everything is alright.
But that statement is not true because God see’s it all, before you do it, when you do it, and when you are going to do it.
and along those same lines Romans 2:16 says:

16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

So even though things may not be catching up with you now, it’s going to be a Pay Now, or Pay Later thing, but a payment must be made.
In other words, you are going to pay for it in this life in one way or another. or you will pay in the after life, or eternity if you will.
*SECRET SIN IS ALSO DAMAGING - Let’s go back to the Old Testament to a story we are all familiar with, The story of David.
David commited adultery with Bashiba. And the bible says he tried to keep it hidden for a very long time.
Let’s look at his confession as he tried to hide this from everyone.

3  When I kept silence, my bones waxed old

Through my roaring all the day long.

4  For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me:

My moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah.

5  I acknowledged my sin unto thee,

And mine iniquity have I not hid.

I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD;

And thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah

So as we see here, that secret sin has a tri-fold affect:
It affects our body
It affects our soul
It affects our spirit.
Secret sin lead us to live a Double Life.
You wind up trying to manage these two worlds, and loose control of everything, even your mind.
SECRET SIN LEADS TO DISCONNECTION.
What i mean here is we are compromised with the Lord.
Not necessarily our salvation, but the intimacy and fellowship is compromised.

18  If I regard iniquity in my heart,

The Lord will not hear me:

Sometimes we ask ourselves why God is not hearing or answering our prayers.
Some times when you loose or diminish your fellowship with God, you can get tuned out.
That could be because we still have unconfessed and unrepentant sin in our lives.
So, God hears our prayers, because he hears and knows everything, but you prayers are not being answered because of the situation you have put yourself in.
So, God hears our prayers, because he hears and knows everything, but you prayers are not being answered because of the situation you have put yourself in.
This is what i’m saying, whenever you are living a double life, you don’t feel like praying, and you don’t feel like fasting.
You don’t feel like studying.
You don’t feel like sharing your faith with other people, or making disciples.
This is how the separation with God starts.
Now let’s go over a few ways to fix this problem.
NUMBER ONE, YOU GOT TO OWN IT.
We need to stop minimizing sin, and justifying it, and making excuses for it.
Things like, i’m doing better than i was, or i’m doing better than brother Jackson and his family.
The more we make excuses, the longer it’s going to take for us to experience freedom.
You can’t defeat the demons in your life that you enjoy playing with.
NEXT, YOU MUST CONFESS YOUR SIN TO THE LORD.
The bible says in 1 John 1:9.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Well Elder Kennedy, i already know i have to confess my sin.
I understand you may already know you should confess your sins.
But it’s more important to understand WHY we need to confess our sins.
One of the best reasons we must continually confess our sins to the Lord is, we begin to hear ourselves, and really understand we must make a change.
The next thing, you may not agree with, but i will show you scripture.
CONFESS IT TO A FRIEND.

Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh

And intermeddleth with all wisdom.

You don’t want anyone in your business.
Wisdom will tell us we sometimes need help from a real friend we can trust.
If we could have fixed it ourselves, it would have already been fixed.
James 5 says,

16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual yfervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

There is freedom in confession.
It is an awesome thing when someone can fully know you, yet they can fully love you.
So it can be a good thing to confess to a friend.
NEXT YOU MUST BELIEVE THAT GOD CAN TRULY SET YOU FREE FROM THIS SIN.

20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

If i can tell the truth, deep down in our heart, some of us don’t believe that God can set us free from our secret sin.
If we don’t believe that God can set us free, then Satan has us right where he wants us, because we don’t believe.
AND LASTLY, FEAR THE LORD.
Prov 14:27

27  The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life,

To depart from the snares of death.

Saints, at the end of the day, the question is:
Do i fear how the Lord God is going to choose to discipline me if i continue to willfully walk in habitual secret sin?
