Today I want to show you some symbols that are among the Most recognizable symbols on earth, let’s see if you recognize them:
1. Shell logo
2. Superman logo
3. Flag of Switzerland
4. Volkswagen
5. Mercedes
What’s really interesting is that all of these symbols are believed to be more recognized than the Christian cross. Of course none of these symbols represent something as powerful as the cross and none of them will last into eternity.
The reality is that there is literally nothing like the cross.
I hope you’ve come expecting today.
I hope you haven’t just come to hear a nice message.
I hope you’ve come expecting to experience the power of the cross for yourself today.
Let’s pray.
The Old Testament is like a shadow of the New Testament.
So when we consider the power of the cross theme, it’s helpful to look back at one of the images or shadows of Christ in the Old Testament which also conveniently demonstrates the power of the cross.
4 Then they journeyed from Mount Hor by the Way of the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom; and the soul of the people became very discouraged on the way. 5 And the people spoke against God and against Moses: “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and our soul loathes this worthless bread.” 6 So the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and many of the people of Israel died. 7 Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, “We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord and against you; pray to the Lord that He take away the serpents from us.” So Moses prayed for the people. 8 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.” 9 So Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole; and so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.
Remember bronze snake is like a shadow of the cross but it still had the power to heal everyone who looked upon it.
What does that mean for us as we look on the complete work of Christ and the Cross of Calvary?
I’ll leave you with that thought for a moment.
In the Old Testament when you think of Christ “Types” the most obvious one is the Passover lamb.
We know that the Passover Lamb saved the Israelites from the death angel just as Christ’s work on the cross saves us from sin and death but there’s more to that story.
I want to show you an obscure scripture that just blows my mind.
37 He also brought them out with silver and gold, And there was none feeble among His tribes.
Consider for a moment what this means.
Over a million Israelites were saved and left Egypt loaded up with gold but not only that...... not one of them were sick, nobody needed walking stick, nobody was weak or injured.
The Passover lamb didn’t just save them, it made them whole as well.
Remember these Old Testament passages show us just a shadow of the power of the cross of Christ.
Which of course brings us to Jesus.
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
The bronze snake of Moses brought salvation from death and it provided healing to all of the Israelites who looked upon it.
It holds no power for us today and it was only for the benefit of the Israelites.
The cross of Christ provided and still provides salvation, healing, deliverance, freedom, peace and redemption to all who have chosen to put their faith in Christ.
It holds power for every person who has ever lived and for every person who will ever live.
The power of the cross is available to you today.
But before I finish today I want to show you one more thing.
Laminin protein molecules
17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.
“And He Himself existed before all things, and in Him all things consist (cohere, are held together).
22 “The Lord possessed me at the beginning of His way, Before His works of old. 23 I have been established from everlasting, From the beginning, before there was ever an earth. 24 When there were no depths I was brought forth, When there were no fountains abounding with water. 25 Before the mountains were settled, Before the hills, I was brought forth; 26 While as yet He had not made the earth or the fields, Or the primal dust of the world. 27 When He prepared the heavens, I was there, When He drew a circle on the face of the deep, 28 When He established the clouds above, When He strengthened the fountains of the deep, 29 When He assigned to the sea its limit, So that the waters would not transgress His command, When He marked out the foundations of the earth, 30 Then I was beside Him as a master craftsman; And I was daily His delight, Rejoicing always before Him, 31 Rejoicing in His inhabited world, And my delight was with the sons of men.
17 And He Himself existed before all things, and in Him all things consist (cohere, are held together).
Laminin molecules are literally Cross like structures that hold our very cells together but in the spiritual it is the complete work of Christ and the cross of Calvary that connects us to our Heavenly Father.
Without laminin our natural bodies fall apart but without the cross our relationship with God falls apart.
The cross is not a trinket, it’s not a decoration.
The cross is power, it is life. It is healing, it is salvation, the cross is freedom, the cross is deliverance, the cross is redemption.
Whatever it is that you need, you can find it in the cross.
What do you need today?
