Romans 5.II-6.I

Last week as we looked at the reality of how powerful God’s love is in light of the fact of just how truly helpless we are in our inability to save ourselves. The Faith by which we are saved is not ours but as Paul says a free gift of God’s good grace. In that faith we are justified, and in that justification is the righteousness of God that covers us from condemnation before Him.
Paul reminds us that Abraham was not counted righteous before God because of his works, he was counted righteous on account of his faith. Additionally, Paul shows us that David rejoiced and in sing his Psalm of the greatness of knowing that God justifies not because one is deserving, but because of God’s grace as a gift unto salvation.
All of this leads up to this moment we are about to look at together as Paul begins to teach and explain why this notion is such an amazing work of grace. That is, God giving us the saving faith required to be justified and found righteous.
