Rebuke your mother; rebuke her. For she is not my wife and I am not her husband. Let her remove the promiscuous look from her face and her adultery from between her breasts.

God speaks. He states...
The Severity of Israel’s Infidelity. [Hosea 2.2-13]
The Severity of Israel’s Infidelity. [Hosea 2.2-13]
Wicked Pursuits (Hosea 2.2-7; keys— vv. 5, 7)
Following a relationship/relationships aside from the covenant commitment made.
To follow after other ‘gods’…IDOLATRY.
3 Do not have other gods besides me. 4 Do not make an idol for yourself, whether in the shape of anything in the heavens above or on the earth below or in the waters under the earth. 5 Do not bow in worship to them, and do not serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, bringing the consequences of the fathers’ iniquity on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, 6 but showing faithful love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commands.
Therefore, put to death what belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry.
What propensities do we have propelling us toward idolatry?
Perverted Prosperity (Hosea 2.8-13; keys— vv. 8, 12)
Pervert…to misinterpret, misuse, or corrupt.
Seeing prosperity wrongly. (v. 12)
Using prosperity wrongly. (v. 8)
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and by craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
What propensities do we have leading us to misuse God’s material blessings?
The Superiority of His Salvation. [Hosea 2.14-23]
The Superiority of His Salvation. [Hosea 2.14-23]
Drawn Away from Idolatry (Hosea 2.14-17; keys— vv. 14, 17)
“Comfort, comfort my people,” says your God. “Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and announce to her that her time of hard service is over, her iniquity has been pardoned, and she has received from the Lord’s hand double for all her sins.”
How has Jesus drawn you back from your other objects of worship?
Strengthened Covenant (Hosea 2.18-20; keys— vv. 19)
Go and learn what this means: I desire mercy and not sacrifice. For I didn’t come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
How has Jesus called you to live righteously, justly…completely showing your commitment to him?
Enduring Restoration (Hosea 2.21-23; keys— v. 23)
Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
How has Jesus shown you his faithful love and his faithful, eternal promises?

The prophet’s picture … Hosea 3.1-5 …
depicts Israel—through Gomer and the kids (the totality…including multi-generational/specifics)—and their wanton sinfulness.
The prophet’s picture also depicts God—through Hosea—and his steadfast love for (shown by commitment to) his bride.
…& God richly fulfills his promise of restoration:
Return from Exile...
There I will give her vineyards back to her and make the Valley of Achor into a gateway of hope. There she will respond as she did in the days of her youth, as in the day she came out of the land of Egypt.
“My name will be great among the nations, from the rising of the sun to its setting. Incense and pure offerings will be presented in my name in every place because my name will be great among the nations,” says the Lord of Armies.
The Messiah...
When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.
He stayed there until Herod’s death, so that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet might be fulfilled: Out of Egypt I called my Son.
The Church...
I will sow her in the land for myself, and I will have compassion on Lo-ruhamah; I will say to Lo-ammi: You are my people, and he will say, “You are my God.”
As it also says in Hosea, I will call Not my People, My People, and she who is Unloved, Beloved. And it will be in the place where they were told, you are not my people, there they will be called sons of the living God.
[1 Peter 2.10]
Afterward, the people of Israel will return and seek the Lord their God and David their king. They will come with awe to the Lord and to his goodness in the last days.
