19 “Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; 20 and that He may send Jesus, the Christ appointed for you, 21 whom heaven must receive until the period of restoration of all things about which God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient time. 22 “Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brethren; to Him you shall give heed to everything He says to you. 23 ‘And it will be that every soul that does not heed that prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’ 24 “And likewise, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and his successors onward, also announced these days. 25 “It is you who are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant which God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’ 26 “For you first, God raised up His Servant and sent Him to bless you by turning every one of you from your wicked ways.”
Lets look again at verse 21
whom heaven must receive until the period of restoration of all things about which God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient time.
“Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brethren; to Him you shall give heed to everything He says to you.
Now at verse 23 and 24
And it will be that every soul that does not heed that prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’
“And likewise, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and his successors onward, also announced these days.
We see here how critical the prophetic message has been throughout the history of the world..
God used a prophet word from Moses, Moses said, God would raise up a prophet
Give heed and yes the prophet was speaking of Christ our Lord was prophecy to be poured out to us
That Sons and Daughter would prophecy.
This word is found in Joel and Act 2
The prophetic promise of the outpouring of the Spirit that Joel prophesied was not completely fulfilled in Peter’s generation. The fullness of what Joel prophesied has still not yet happened. This is evidenced by significant differences between Joel 2 and Acts 2. Only a portion of it was fulfilled in Peter’s day. Joel said that the sun and the moon would grow dark and signs, such as blood and smoke, would be seen. The early church did not see these signs.
Joel prophesied a worldwide outpouring of the Spirit on all flesh, meaning all nations. In Acts 2, the Spirit only rested on 120 local Jewish believers in Jerusalem, and then on 3,000 who were saved that day. The fullness of Joel’s prophecy requires a global dimension.
Peter understood that Joel’s prophecy would only be completely fulfilled when Jesus returned to earth to restore all things during the millennial kingdom.
Again our text
19“Repent…that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, 20and that He may send Jesus Christ [Jesus’ second coming]…
the prophet message or prophecy is essential to revival…
what is prophecy
well the dictionary would define it as a prediction.. but a more biblical definition would say.
The Greek word translated “prophesying” or “prophecy” in both passages properly means to “speak forth” or declare the divine will, to interpret the purposes of God, or to make known in any way the truth of God which is designed to influence people.
Predicting is not the same thing as prophesying
think the weatherman.
What a great job, he could be totally wrong people will still tune in everyday
The weatherman is not a prophet..
Prophecy is always connected to the word of God and a prophet is a proclaimer..
He speaks God’s word without apology or compromise…
He speaks truth, he says “let God be true and every man a lair.”
The prophet is bold.. he’s both loved and hated.. he fears God and hates ungodliness.. he loves but not that soppy stuff, he love enough to say REPENT FOR THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS AT HAND..
But as Good of a speaker as the prophet must be he must be an even better prayer..
Leonard Ravenhill says it best when he says, “No man is greater than his prayer life..
The prophet doesn’t not speak his own words but God’s
and in order to do that he must first get his face in the book and tilt his ear towards God.
Lord what is your heart for your people in this hour
Matthew Henry says. When God intend great mercy for His people, the first thing He does is set them a-praying.
Ravenhill says because the church has lost Holy Ghost fire, men must go to hell fire…
NOPE not on my watch..
John the Baptist says in
11 “As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
Ravenhill adds one place alone will keep the heart in passion and the eyes in vision the place of prayer
Elijah the great prophet of God prayed
37 “Answer me, O Lord, answer me, that this people may know that You, O Lord, are God, and that You have turned their heart back again.”
EM Bounds says, “short, powerful prayer public prayers are an outcome of long secret intercession.”
Elijah was praying God’s heart with passion…
The question is not have I been called to preach but rather and my son or daughter
The office of preaching is for some but the office of intercession is for all
And God said he would pour out His spirit to all mankind resulting in His Sons and Daughter prophesying
So if I am a son or daughter I've been called to prophesy, I have been called to declare
Like Jeremiah says, there is a fire down in my bones I cannot be silent.
Mark us God with the spirit of prophecy..
In your text
25 “It is you who are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant which God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’
God is going to use me to bless the whole earth…
And In this the last days prophecy is necessary to turn the hearts back to God
I hear him say to Isaiah in
8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
I want to respond like Isaiah and say send me I go for you
I’m not perfect but im willing..
Answer me, O Lord, answer me, that this people may know that You, O Lord, are God, and that You have turned their heart back again.”
14 ‘Return, O faithless sons,’ declares the Lord; ‘For I am a master to you, And I will take you one from a city and two from a family, And I will bring you to Zion.’
We hear the Lord say through Jeremiah
22 “Return, O faithless sons, I will heal your faithlessness.” “Behold, we come to You; For You are the Lord our God.
23 “Do I have any pleasure in the death of the wicked,” declares the Lord God, “rather than that he should turn from his ways and live?
The prophet must tell Gods people the heart and desire of God look with me to
11 “Say to them, ‘As I live!’ declares the Lord God, ‘I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn back, turn back from your evil ways! Why then will you die, O house of Israel?’
ill close with this
8 ‘Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, And the very ends of the earth as Your possession.
