Introduction
I’ve been gone for a while
I just obtained with a fancy paper that says I’m smart, otherwise known as a bachelor's degree
I’ve been very busy with school work
I also have an important announcement that will wait for the end of the video
So we just had mother’s day
It happened to be the same weekend as graduation
It caused a very weird inversion of the typical power dynamic on mother’s day weekend
Also I had a lot more mothers than usual to attend to, not boding well for my wallet
with Family still being in town from graduation and all
It was an highly unusual and extremely busy weekend
I also sprained my ankle the week before, I was supposed to be taking it easy still. I’m still paying for last weekend
Now you’re probably thinking about how in the world this connects to the title of this video
This is my 1 week late mother’s day video
As the title of this video would suggest, I want to look at the dynamic between God’s love and a mother’s love
Body
Body
I kinda have two major categories here
the similarities
the differences
I am gonna go through one then the other
So first, the similarities
The Similarities
The Similarities
I got three main similarities for you guys
Both loves are unconditional by nature
There is no objective reason for either to love us
A child is a drag on the mother’s time, money, social life, marriage, and many other things
We have sinned against God, and even still remain an adulterous wife
Hosea 1:2 presents this analogy of Israel being an adulterous wife because despite Israel being in covenant with God they still sin and commit idolatry
We are in covenant with God as Christians, even considered apart of the true Israel, so it is no different for us when we fall short and sin, which usually involves some level of idolatry.
Both loves are enduring
A mother will love her child as long as she lives
This is a typically accepted truth
The worst thing for a mother to have to do is bury her child
God’s love is even more enduring, since He is eternal, his love is the same
In Jeremiah 31:3 God says that He has loved Israel with an everlasting love, and it is because of this love He has continued his faithfulness to them
Well we have been grafted into Israel have we not
Both loves are near impossible to break
Mothers love fiercely
It would take a lot for a mother to stop loving her child
God loves us beyond comprehension
Paul says in Romans 5:8 that God still loved us while we were sinners`
Despite being the adulterous wife seen in Hosea, God loved us anyways
He didn’t just love us, but while we were being adulterous, God bought us back
He bailed us out of prison even though we been cheating on him with other gods
Paul lists in Romans 8:38-39 all the things that cannot separate us from the love of God
Here is the full list
death, life, angels, rulers, things present, things to come, powers, height, depth, anything else in all creation
Notice this list includes everything except God himself
and He ain’t gonna give you up anytime soon
Before we continue on to talk about differences I would also like to make a distinction as well
Our culture’s view of a mother’s love isn’t full reality, it’s a stereotype
It’s seen as something perfect and infallible, despite it being of beings so inherently imperfect and fallible
So let’s take a look at some of the ways a mother’s love can fall short when compared to the love of God
The differences
The differences
A mother’s love isn’t always immediately established
A study done by Roseth et al. (2018) suggests that some new mothers question their motherly love after birth
there is some form of disillusionment with the reality of the mother - child relationship
This disillusionment may be caused by things like traumatic births
This study would suggest that a mother’s love isn’t as universal a truth as our culture accepts it to be
Yet in spite of this, God’s love is always established
Psalm 71, 22 are ones of lament. In both Psalms the psalmist suggests his trust in God, particularly suggesting a relationship with God that stems before their birth
Psalm 71:4, 22:9-10
Like we said earlier, God’s love is eternal as well (Jer 31:3)
The only person questioning God’s love is you, not God
A mother’s love is not infinite
All human love is limited because we are limited beings
We only have so much love to give
But God by nature is infinite, and by nature He is love (1 Jn 4:8)
Our culture suggests that a mother’s love is the greatest love anybody can experience
Yet the truth of the bible is that God’s love is greater than anybody could imagine
Look at the story of the bible
We see a great love of God for humanity, for Israel, and for the Church
This is most true in the gospel of Jesus Christ
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that He sent his only begotten son
John 15:13 There is no greater love than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
Jesus then describes the 12 (whom He is talking to) as his friends
There is no greater love than that Jesus showed us
His death on that cross will be the greatest love humanity will ever know

The important announcement, I’m starting a second channel so to say
I’m gonna be posting the sermons I do over there and reserving this channel exclusively for stuff like this
That channel is gonna serve as a record of sermons I’ve preached
also going to be a great resume tool when I apply to ministry positions
Cause I’d love to do this full time, but food is a pretty important necessity of life
If you want help support this becoming a full time ministry, there are a few things you can do
share this video and others with people that you know, get them involved in this ministry so that it can grow even larger in it’s reach
Leave a like and comment, building a community is critical to success on this platform
also YouTube looks at that stuff and is more likely to recommend it to others
I do have a patreon
give like 1 dollar a month to help support me having food to eat
Link down in the description below
It’s good to be back up and running
I hate having to take breaks from the channel, I really love doing this
I really believe this is what God wants me to do
You all are dearly loved, by me, and so much more by our Lord. Have a wonderful day and I’ll see you next time.
