God's Grace and Mercy

GOD'S GRACE AND MERCY – Hebrews 4:1-16

            God's grace and mercy can be viewed as two sides of the same coin. Grace on one side gives us what we do not deserve; mercy on the other does not give us what we do deserve.  Grace gives us what we do not deserve. Mercy does not give us what we do deserve. Grace, often defined as unmerited favor, is offered freely by God "through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus" (Romans 3:24). This is offered to us only through faith in Christ. The law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ" (John 1:17).The law is holy, just, and good (Romans 7:12) "But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound" (Romans 5:20). God is rich in His mercy toward us. Our salvation is rooted in God's mercy. Grace and mercy are gifts. We can bring absolutely nothing to God except a humble and thankful heart as we trust not in our works, but solely in the finished work of Jesus Christ at Calvary. Consider two verses about God’s Mercy. "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us" (Titus 3:5). Thank God that "His mercy endureth for ever" (Psalm 136:26).

Two points that outline this passage:

I.                   THE REST THAT GOD PROMISED – HEBREWS 4:1-13

II.                JESUS CHRIST THE HIGH PRIEST -  HEBREWS 4:14-16

Jesus is in Heaven. One day we will be with Him. Jesus was tempted yet without sin. Jesus was the perfect Son of God. How does this apply to us this evening? Let’s look at verse 16 of our text. Responsibilities to consider:

1.      We can come boldly unto Gods throne of Grace. Why? So we can receive God’s Mercy, and we can receive Gods Grace. Because God wants to help us and meet our daily needs. We as Christians should thank God for His mercy and grace.
