The answer my friends, is blowing in the wind. It was the day of Pentecost. Called the Feast of Weeks in the old testament, celebrating the wheat harvest (Exo 34:22). Pentecost literally means "fifty", observed 50 days after the Passover (Lev 23:15-16). From our reading this week (Acts 2:1-21), this particular Pentecost celebration is 10 days after Jesus has ascended into heaven. Jesus followers were together when suddenly there were incredible audible and visible signs. A sound of rushing wind filled the house where they were sitting. And tongues, like fire sat upon each of them, enabling them to speak in foreign languages. They were filled with the Holy Spirit. And those who understood were amazed. The Holy Spirit's outpouring was truly amazing. It was proclaimed earlier by John the Baptist (Mt 3:11). It was foretold by Jesus (Acts 1:4-5; 1:8) Some three thousand people were baptized on that day alone. That same Holy Spirit power is available to us today to make us more effective witnesses for Christ. That same Holy Spirit keeps us connected with God on a daily basis. The better we understand His working at Pentecost, the better we will be able to relate to Him and experience His power. The ministry of the Spirit is to glorify Christ in the life and witness of us), and that is what is important. I pray that the Holy Spirit is reaching out to you today. If so, please reach out; I'd love to chat with you. "No man is excluded from calling upon God, the gate of salvation is set open unto all men: neither is there any other thing which keepeth us back from entering in, save only our own unbelief." John Calvin Holy God, you spoke the world into being. Pour your Spirit to the ends of the earth, that your children may return from exile as citizens of your commonwealth, and our divisions may be healed by your word of love and righteousness. Amen.
