The Power Source!
The Power Source!
16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.
17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,
2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:
3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
What is Pentecost? “Pentecost,” which comes from the Greek meaning “fifty,” commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles and the birth of the early church.
Jesus gave the command to wait for the baptism of The Holy Spirit more than once (Lk 24:49). Luke 24:49 KJV 49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
What does it mean to be baptized with the Holy Spirit? 1. It means to be clothed with and filled with the power of the Spirit of God (Lk 24:49; Ac 1:8). 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
God's commission for the church has not changed; So, we still need to be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit.
WHEN AND HOW DO WE RECEIVE THIS POWER?
(“...when the Holy Spirit comes upon you”)
The Power of The Holy Spirit doesn’t come automatically at conversion or water baptism.
First, we must ask in faith (Lk 11:9-13) 9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
Second we must receive by faith (Lk 11:10; Mk 11:24). 10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
Third, we must speak in faith (Ac 2:4; Jn 7:38) 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
WHY IS THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT SO IMPORTANT IN EVERY BELIEVER’S LIFE?
1. Because He is the Christian’s source of power for life and service. 2. Because, when we’re baptized in the Holy Spirit, we will receive power to witness
3. The Holy Spirit Gives us Power to overcome temptation and live a holy life (Ro 1:4; 8:13) 4. Power to pray more effectively (Lk 11:1-13; Ro 8:26-28).
5. Power to love more passionately (Ro 5:5). 6. Power to better understand the Word of God (1Co 2:14;
Jn 14:26; 16:13).
7. Power to preach more effectively (Ac 4:8, 31; 1Co 2:4). 8. Power to do the works of Jesus (Jn 14:12 with Jn 14:16;
16:7).
9. Power to clearly discern the voice of God (Ro 8:16). 10. Power to worship The Lord (Jn 4:24).
WILL We OBEY CHRIST'S FINAL COMMAND?
