The Peace of God
Scripture: Gal. 5:22-23
In this chapter, the Apostle Paul begins to talk about the fruits of the Spirit: there are (9) of them. When the Spirit is operating, and in control in your life, you will produce these fruits.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness, self-control; against such things, there is no law. [1]
Today we are going to focus on “Peace.”
First Point: Peace Only Comes from Christ
· One thing about life is we all want these three, Love, Joy, and Peace, and God gives them to us; they are available because we are a child of God.
· And it’s not till we go through something that we seek out them.
· Buying a car will not do it for you, the house or isn’t going to get for you
· You need what only the Spirit of God can give to you!
· When you have peace, you are free from disturbance, quiet, calm. You are mentally calm
o Relationships don’t do it
o Changing your hair color isn’t going to do it
o Most people who constantly stir up stuff have no peace in their lives, so they continuously stir up stuff.
o They may not even like themselves.
o Until they learn to like themselves the way God made them, they will never have any peace.
Example: I was watching the 700 Club on Friday morning as I was scanning the channel, and they had done an interview with this lady; she was born in two a household of having 2 brothers. She said it always seemed like her parents paid more attention to her brothers than they did to her, so she found herself going through life trying to make her parents love her as much as they loved her brothers. So, she started watching pornography, then went from watching pornography to having sex with many guys in high school. Yet, she still wasn't happy then; she decided that she had to become a guy for her to be happy. Through that whole process, it wasn't until she started having a relationship with God and then realizing that she had to love herself as she was as God had created her to be a beautiful woman that she changed her life around, and now she has peace in life.
PEACE COMES THROUGH CHRIST - only through a relationship with Christ
· John 14:27: 27- Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [2]
We all will have trouble in life, but look at John 16:33
These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”[3]
In a relationship with Christ, you’ll have peace… In the world, we will have trouble
BUT HE SAYS: be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”[4]
o NO MATTER WHAT YOU ARE GOING THROUGH, HE HAS OVERCOME IT
o The Devil will stress you out
o Life will stress you out
o The hardest thing for me to learn in these past few years was to stop stressing over what happened, not to me, but the church, and just release it and give it to God.
o I am not stressing over not working
o Why? Because God works it out every time. Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to Hispurpose. [5]
It may not look like it right now, but by the time I get to the end of the story, I have peace
· The peace that Christ had was through Calvary,
· Not as the world, because the world will give you something and take it back.
· The world will give you some, and it will be filled with lies
· You can’t find peace even in relationships
· Anything that costs you your peace, you need to let it go!
· You can only find peace in Christ
Point #2: WE HAVE PEACE WITH GOD THROUGH JESUS: Romans 5:1-2 says:
Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.[6]
· Therefore, having been justified by faith: Justified means no matter what you did, God looks at us as if we never did anything, even though we are guilty.
· He will treat us as nothing never happened
· We are justified by putting our faith in God
· We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.[7]
· Peace comes through Christ… Peace comes through Christ
· Just know that God is working everything out for your good!
· Every day the enemy wants to have doubt and confusion in your life
o Don’t read your Bible
o Don’t believe God
o Don’t trust God
o Don’t go to that church that’s a voice talking to you all the time, and it’s not until you stop listening to those voices that you will have peace.
Point #3 Peace Keeps You from Going Crazy --- Philippians 4:7 says: And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus[8]
· You should have lost your mind
· You should've had a nervous breakdown
· You should have cussed somebody out gave them a piece of your mind
· You should have blown your brain out
· You should have jumped off the bridge
· All the hell you’ve been through,
· The way people have talked about you
· All the trouble and stress they put you through
BUT THE PEACE OF GOD KEPT ME!
· When I think of the prayers, he's answered
· The problem that He has solved
· When I think about the goodness of Jesus, my heart cries out, thank you, Lord
· I have Peace through Christ
Philippians 4:7 says: And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus[9]
· God's peace is so profound that you can't even understand it
· They don’t know how you’ve gone through what you went through, but it ain’t nothing but the Peace of God!
· You lost your job
· Your marriage has been torn to pieces
· They pronounced a condition on you that the doctors can’t fix
· Your children have gone crazy
· Your family has lost its mind
· YOU ARE ONLY HERE BECAUSE OF THE PEACE OF GOD
· He gave us a peace that surpasses all understanding!
· I should have lost my mind by now
· I should have walked away by now
· But Ooooh, His peace kept me
The peace that God gives
Look at the Scripture: will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus[10]
· He’ll put some proctors around your heart
· He’ll put some protectors around your mind to keep you from losing your mind
I thank God for His Peace.
