Introduction

It’s easy to be devoted to a leader or a vision when it doesn’t require much of us.
In following Jesus, the disciples didn’t have that option.
They were called to follow Jesus in difficult circumstancesones that required them to put their lives on the line.
After Jesus told His disciples about His impending death and resurrection,
He defined the true meaning of discipleship.
His words required their immediate response and intense loyalty:
Luke 9:23 NKJV
23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.
Discipleship - The process of becoming a committed follower of Jesus Christ
Discipleship - is the process designed to bring Christians from spiritual infancy to spiritual maturity
The Teaching this morning Is Entitled:

A Vision for Discipleship

Mark 1:35 NKJV
35 Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.
A disciple should have a devotion to Jesus
Devotion suggest something deliberate, Even calculated.
It’s not without motion, but it’s not defined by it either.
Devotion makes a determination-that a person will organize his or her life around Jesus.
When I first received Jesus as my personal savior my life changed dramatically. My goal was to be more like Jesus.

A Disciple has a Biblical view of the World

John 8:31 NKJV
31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.
A disciple-strives to know the Bible well, both its content-and its imperatives
There should be a universal concern about biblical illiteracy
Note: Blame it on Busyness, Technology,Too many translations,The demise of Sunday school. One thing is for sure: We seem to be losing a working knowledge-of our sacred literature. We think it’s okay to-outsource Bible knowledge-to preachers,Writers, instructors.
Christ followers understand they cannot live off the monologues of their favorite Sunday Preacher.
A disciple must Remember the psalmist
Psalm 119:105 NKJV
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
You may be saying: “Yeah I know that verse but it’s just words”
No!Back up where you had! Disciples need to know the word Of God and live by the word of God! (do you have your driver’s License, but don’t obey the law)?

A Disciple Intentionally seeks God’s Direction

Paul’s letter to the Philippians is packed with military terms like “responsive obedience”
Philippians 2:12 NKJV
12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;
As soldiers condition themselves for battle, so Christians, Paul said, are to “work out”
their role in facing a morally dangerous world.
A world filled with deception, facing immorality,
No transforming Christ followers would be satisfied or comfortable with spiritual passiveness, Instead followers of Jesus expect a battle.
There will be choices, opportunities, and opposition.
Transforming Christians will prepare for all of it diligently
Self discipline means living by intentions and commitment.
Developing life habits in alignment with Jesus and replacing those that are not.

A Disciple Worships God In a Spirit of Continuous Repentance

John 4:24 NKJV
24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
As in all other personal relationships, there is an appropriate rhythm and routine, in order to refresh one’s relationship to God.
Worship is an appropriate decision for this - Like Isaiah, a disciple of Jesus gains a sense of his true size and the need to acknowledge his unique forms of brokenness
In other words he doesn’t find it difficult to repent of his sins To God or in a marital relationship
In this kind of worship,We are reminded of God’s purpose and concerns
We all worship in different ways, Whatever way that you worship, a transforming Christians will leave His or her place of worship knowing they are at peace with Jesus.

Conclusion:

In my introduction you may have remembered that I said “God wants believers-to grow up in the faith” - from infancy-to adulthood-so that they become mature Spiritually, The process is called discipleship.
In Luke chapter 14, The Bible Says that Jesus-drew large crowds. The word has gone out-that when Jesus appeared the people gathered,
Because they knew that the blind was going to see, and the Lame was going to walk, and the Deaf receive their hearing.Everybody wanted to hear Jesus.
But every time the crowd got really Large Jesus would Say something to shrink it. Can you imagine his disciples-seeing the large crowds and everybody-is excited to-see Jesus, And when Jesus Comes out to speak, He says something like:
Luke 14:26 NKJV
26 “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.
Jesus is using hyperbole—a figure of speech that relies on exaggeration to make a point. He is not encouraging His followers to turn against their family members; rather, He is explaining that even devotion to family does not supersede the call to discipleship. Jesus and God’s kingdom must come first in the life of a believer.
A discipleship has to do with a choice
and that choice comes with a price
because the price of that choice can cost a relationship.
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!
I’m asking you to make a commitment today to become a Disciple of Jesus Christ
To be A disciple of Jesus Christ, you first Need to receive Him as your Personal Savior

John 3:16 NKJV
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
As we bow our heads:
Repeat after me:
1. Lord I believe that Jesus is the son of God, and that He died On the cross for my sins and His resurrection from the dead gives me eternal life. I asked forgiveness of my sins, and I Except Jesus as my Lord and Savior. In his name I Pray, amen.
