Don't Let the Process Steal Your Promise
49 “Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Don't Let the Process Steal Your Promise
Intro:
Intro:
When the day of Pentecost was FULLY come.
The tarrying was the process,
The Spirit was the promise.
500 saw Him before He ascended, but
only 120 were in the. Upper room.
Why? Lost their promise in the process.
- Rabbinical scholars believe that it was on Pentecost that God visited His people after their exodus from Egypt and through Moses, brought the Law down from Mount Sinai.
This earthshaking day of visitation, trembling, and betrothal is the birthday of the nation of Israel.
On Pentecost all the Spring feasts culminated in the New Covenant era, when the Spirit of God would begin establishing a new kingdom on earth.
Because Pentecost, or the Feast of Weeks, is associated with the giving of the Law and the coming of the Spirit, it is interesting to compare the outcome of the two events.
On the first Pentecost, the Law was given,
3,000 people were killed because of the sin of the golden calf.
In Acts 2, on Pentecost, the Spirit was given,
3,000 people were born again.
Giving new meaning to "the Law kills, but the Spirit gives life."
1 Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth.
This is where Jesus spit on the ground and made mud, put it in his eyes and said to wash.
7 And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing.
Jesus said wash in the pool of Siloam. When the man was later questioned about his healing he said:
11 He answered and said, “A Man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes and said to me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.’ So I went and washed, and I received sight.”
Did you catch it?
Did you catch it?
Jesus said go wash, in the pool of Siloam.
The man said, Jesus told him, go to the pool of Siloam and wash.
He put the journey ahead of the miracle.
He was weighing the costs.
The process is the cocoon within which the promise is formed.
Some see the cocoon as the end caterpillar’s life.
But others understand that it is the birthing chamber for the beauty of the butterfly.
New Creature!
New Creature!
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
...not a new man...a new creature...
the world has never seen anything like this before...old things are passed away and behold all things become new.
15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation.
380 missed the promise because...
380 missed the promise because...
...they couldn't endure to the fulfillment of the promise.
19 In your patience possess ye your souls.
3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry.
Go to Jerusalemand wait... etc.
Emphasizing the process of discipleship in Luke 9:23, Jesus said, “...If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”
Peter preached the process before the promise in Acts 2…

38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
You can have the promise…but first you have to go through the process!
You can have the promise…but first you have to go through the process!
Everyone goes thru a process. If you survive the process and hold on to the promise, then the promise will come to pass.
13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,
14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Bible Examples:
Bible Examples:
The process for Joseph was the pit, Potiphar's house, and the prison before the dream materialized.
For David, it was laborious days in a shepherd's field and in caves fleeing for his life.
Moses realized that desert times are a requirement for potential and a promised land to materialize.
Abraham tried to help God out with his promise and birthed a wild seed as a result, but God kept His Word despite Abraham's impatience.
David had to overcome a lion and a bear before stepping out onto the grandest stage of his life and slaying the giant.
This represents God's process in using a man...he must first overcome the lion (world) and the bear (flesh) before God will set him onto the stage for all to witness.
Five Smooth Stones
The brook (life washing over you and smoothing you for God's purpose)...
The bag (dark moments knocking around in anticipation)...
the battle...a smooth stone used to slay a giant.
But don't forget the suddenly!
Suddenly there came a sound!
The process happens but there is a suddenly!
The process may seem long sometimes but God can turn nothing (impossibility) into something suddenly.
