33 And they came to Capernaum. And when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you discussing on the way?” 34 But they kept silent, for on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest. 35 And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.” 36 And he took a child and put him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms, he said to them, 37 “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.”

HISTORY:

Mark with Barenabas

Mark and Paul Had falling out and Mark went home.

Paul didn’t trust Mark to be faithful in the tough times.

Barnabas encouraged Mark to stick with ministry( we all need a Barnabas In our lives)

Because of Barnabas’ influence and support of Mark ( we end up with the second Gospel Book in the New Testament)

Primary Concerns :

Leadership & Service as a disciple

Written to the disciples.

building disciples by blending (Leadership & Service)

Two Focuses:

Leading as a servant

Serving as a Leader

This is the the progress and Process in with Jesus develops us.

Jesus shows us how the disciples are exposed to their development and commitment to being a full time Christian and NOT a part time Saint

AND not one who gives up when the going gets tough..... because there will be days when things are not as pleasant as you would Like.

There will Be circumstances, situations and Events that will cause you to second guess your commitment to this journey.

Mark is concerned with Discipleship

Definition:

That Process of Spiritual Development , where we progressively Learn to bring every area of life under the Lordship of Jesus Christ

Jesus had to walk the disciples through a process of getting to know Jesus(what he was about) and Getting to Know themselves and to get to know how to foster the relationship between each other.

ISSUE: GREATNESS!

Although saved,

Still worldly

gentile mindset....

LORD OVER PEOPLE

WHO IS GOING TO BE THE GREATEST IN THE KINGDOM

JESUS REBUKES

if you are going to lead for me. you have to be willing to serve.

Leadership comes through service .....and service is a Great way to lead...

Jesus’ illustrates this concept by his own life.

Son of God (He serves the purposes of GOD)

Son of Man(While serving AMONG the needs of MAN)

HE IS BOTH :

HUMAN

DIVINE

JESUS SHOWS US THE BLUE PRINT TO MINISTRY.

BEING LEAD BY DIVINE ASSIGNMENT IN OUR HUMANISTIC CHARACTERISTICS.
