The Coming Wind.
The Coming Wind.
The disciples were all gathered together in one place. There were about 120 left after the crucifixion. Jesus had ascended the week before. They were waiting, as they’d been instructed, for something to happen. They were indoors waiting for the new counselor to come. Probably expecting a prophet or even an angel to knock on the door.
Tongues of fire appeared over their heads. They start speaking in languages they don’t know. instead of sitting around inside wondering what it meant, they went outside. Probably in a panic. A few of them probably got trampled in the rush.
What did they see when they went outside? A crowd of people that was gathered for the celebration of Pentecost, the Jewish festival that is celebrated 50 days after Passover.
So here come the disciples, speaking in tongues, heads on fire, in a holy panic.
The words coming out of their mouths aren’t there own, and neither are their actions. The disciples are being driven out of the upper room by the HS just like the HS drove Jesus into the wilderness to be tempted. It is no longer an option to remain safe indoors. It is time for action.
