WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT UNDER THE COVERING OF GOD

The Children of Israel had a problem. By this time, in the infancy of their journey, the chariots and soldiers of Pharoah have caught up to the Israelites at Pi-hahiroth. Immediately the Israelites were filled with great dread and fear. This after leaving Egypt in a boastful and defiant manner. When God liberates you, you have the ability to boast in The Lord, you have the right to rub it in the face of the devil, because God has come through and given you a rescue! We should always have the attitude of Israel coming out of Egypt when God has accomplished something in our lives. However don’t become lax. Don’t become sedentary and absent minded. We are fighting a war against the devil, and there is always going to be a battle on every hand. For now in this situation, God has “hardened” the heart of Pharoah. In other words He swayed Pharaoh's mind to say in, Exodus 14:5, “What have we done, for we have released Israel from serving us.“ Now if you can recall from early Social Studies classes, Egypt was a place of great pride, the Pharoah was considered equivalent to a god. It is no wonder that in this situation, biblically, Pharoah was considered to be full of himself. He had a foolish pride, he had more than a haughty spirit. He was not the one to be beaten, he did the beating. So to hear how Israel left Egypt, and plundered Egypt without firing a shot, Pharaoh's pride has been hit hard, it affected his thinking and decision-making processes. So as a result he had to pursue Israel in a dastardly effort to recover his pride, his victorious reputation, and his ruthless nature. He was too blinded by his own pride to see that God, Yahweh, the God of Joseph set him up for defeat. It’s important to note that Yahweh is the God of Joseph, because it was recorded earlier that there was a Pharoah that rose who, “knew not Joseph,” and caused Israel to be enslaved by Egypt. Now without a doubt, its coming back to Egypt’s remembrance, these people are of the family of Joseph, the one whom with his God caused Egypt to prosper, and in times of famine, kept us in good health and wealth. I’m sure someone somewhere uttered the name of Joseph in remembrance, I’m sure this added more fuel to the fire and forced Pharoah to not be outdone, so he pursues Israel and has now caught up with them.
