Text: 1 Thess. 1:2-6

Two Critical Words

Imitators

mimites
We get mimic from that family of words. (Actor in that family
Mimicry can be bad sometimes, but grand in others
Children mimicking parents (mocking therm)
Looking up to a mentor—even to the point of distraction
If the mentor is worthy of imitation

Carries the background of a blow, or strike
Think of making a mark (my generator story)
Once the mark is made, you should know what’s inside

Whom Do We Imitate

Paul, and his companions were imitating Jesus
…a good one to imiitate
Jesus had made his mark on Paul…and Paul’s life
Paul left his mark…became an example to those he encountered
Timothy and Silvanus here
The believers in Thessalonica as well
Mark is so clear that the Thessalonians were making there mark on other

The Desired Result

Received the Word (in affliction)
With the joy of the Holy Spirit

Questions

Assuming that Christ has indeed made His mark on us as He did on Paul
Are we making a mark on others
We must act in the knowledge that people are watching
They’re seeing what we’re made of
Let’s purpose to be good imitators of Christ, so that others may safely imitate us
