Why Is It So Important for Us To Pay Careful Attention??

Open with the above ? and explain that obviously the writer is telling his audience that it is possible to drift if something does not take place in the believer’s life and I ask what is that?

TO PAY CAREFUL ATTENTION TO WHAT THEY, WE HAVE HEARD.

Heb. 1:

1 In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. NIV

If this were my last sermon on earth, this is where I would go in Scripture for you see, if I get it, truly get it, WHO Jesus is and was, IT WILL BE ALL RIGHT!!!

The Son Is....

God’s Final Revelation

God’s final revelation is not a phamphlet, not a project, but a person.....That person is Jesus...

No further books. No more prophets. No more Revelation.

2) Heir of All Things

Ps. 24: 1 The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it,

the world, and all who live in it;

Lenski, the commentary says: “from all eternity and thus at the very creation when time began, God made his Son the heir of all things. Not according to His deity, which could inherit nothing but according to His humanity, which could and did inherit all things. Jesus is the heir of all things.

What does this do for me....

When I am weary and worrisome, and filled with despair.

To whom do I go???

I turn to Jesus and remember that He is the heir of all things.

I remember Ps. 24 and what it says...

Oh and by the way:

IF WE KNOW THIS JESUS IN FAITH, THE BIBLE SAYS, WE ARE C0-HEIRS WITH HIM!!!!!

15 For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba,Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. Is it no wonder that Mark 4 records the disciple saying:

“what manner of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!

5) Sustainer of all things by His Powerful Word

6) God’s Sacrifical Offering that we might be Pure before Him. Provider

V3...”sustaining all things”......ongoing process...

Jesus keeps us from flying off in to outer space!!!

“provided purification”.... 1 time event....we either accept his sacrifice of we don’t…

In the Present

1 We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.[1]
