Encouragement for Foreigners: 1 Peter Message 25

1 Peter 4:1-6

ETS: Peter wrote to encourage his struggling audience to continue to remain faithful to God and to live apart from the sin of the world.

MO: Devotional

SO: I want the hearers to repent of any sinful lifestyles and choose to worship God daily, choosing living a life separate from the sin of the world.

Body:

LM: Personal Testimony ages 10-14 [I was sinful due to a lack of breaking off from the world, sanctification]

EXP: The instruction is to arm oneself with the same understanding as Christ- the reasons are as follows:

the one who chooses to do this chooses to separate himself from a lifestyle of sin. (v. 1b)

The one who chooses to do this chooses to live according to God’s will and not according to his/her own or the way of the unbelievers (vv. 2-5)

TR: One who lives a sinful lifestyle chooses to live a life apart from God.

TS: What is wrong with living a sinful lifestyle?

Conclusion:

LM: Personal testimony ages 15-current [key: choosing to live a life of worship, sanctification, enjoying the daily blessings of God and striving to separate myself from sin]

EXP: The Gospel was proclaimed to those who believed so that though they die a physical death in reference to their flesh, they might live an eternal spiritual life through the agency of the Spirit (v. 6).

FR: What is wrong with living a sinful lifestyle? A life full of God’s blessings is better. The world may offer temporary satisfaction and pleasure, but it will end in an eternal life apart from God. Choosing to live a life apart from sin is choosing to live a life within the realm of God’s blessings which are eternal. Today, what hinders you from choosing this lifestyle?
