EXP: The instruction is to arm oneself with the same understanding as Christ- the reasons are as follows:
the one who chooses to do this chooses to separate himself from a lifestyle of sin. (v. 1b)
The one who chooses to do this chooses to live according to God’s will and not according to his/her own or the way of the unbelievers (vv. 2-5)

FR: What is wrong with living a sinful lifestyle? A life full of God’s blessings is better. The world may offer temporary satisfaction and pleasure, but it will end in an eternal life apart from God. Choosing to live a life apart from sin is choosing to live a life within the realm of God’s blessings which are eternal. Today, what hinders you from choosing this lifestyle?
