Sermon Text:
And when he was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
6 and saying, Lord, my servant lieth in the house sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
7 And he saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
8 And the centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof; but only say the word, and my servant shall be healed.
9 For I also am a man under authority, having under myself soldiers: and I say to this one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
10 And when Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
11 And I say unto you, that many shall come from the east and the west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven:
12 but the sons of the kingdom shall be cast forth into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.
13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And the servant was healed in that hour.
Intro: If I was to ask you if you knew Jesus what would you say?
Most of here would say I know Jesus.
Some of us might even say he is my saviour.
Some of you may say you really don't know Jesus and that's OK.
We can spend all our time chasing after a version of Jesus that is not real. If most of us are honest we may have a version of Jesus that is not true.
How do I know this because there so many denominations so many religions. And if we got to the bare reason it comes down is to what Jesus Do we believe in.
In The bible Jesus has this encounter with a Roman Centurion. let me read the passage

13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And the servant was healed in that hour.

This Roman Centurion was not an ordinary soldier. This was like in today's standers to a Captain.

Commander of 100 men in the Roman army. There were generally 6 centurions in each cohort and 10 cohorts in a legion. Each legion had 6 tribunes to whom its centurions were subordinate

So these guys were no Joke!!!!!
They Understood orders and the New what it meant to Give orders. In the roman army when you did not follow the orders you died so this centurion understood what it was like to give and take orders.

Power In the Posture.

I want you to see how this man approaches Jesus.

and saying, Lord, my servant lieth in the house sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.

Why would this man speak to Jesus this way?
Jesus was a Jew and at this time tensions were high. The roman Centurion
He must of seen Jesus perform many Miracles.
Could of it been because that the centurion understood his power and authority would only go to far. He understood that in order to she Jesus move on his behalf he need to be humble in his approach.
Some of us go to God with our list of do but never approach in a humble manner.
We dont ever give God the right posture in our attitude.
We Look at Jesus as one of those old religious guy with no power. Which Leads me into my next Point

A dead Jesus Cant Raise Dead People

8 And the centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof; but only say the word, and my servant shall be healed.

This centurion understood that Jesus had the power to just speak and his servant would be healed
His faith in Jesus.
He knew what Jesus was capable of doing he seen it.

The question becomes do you know and believe in Jesus of the bible?

My uncle story

Power in the Person

9 For I also am a man under authority, having under myself soldiers: and I say to this one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
10 And when Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
The picture of Jesus
The centurion new that the power lied in Jesus.
He did not need Jesus to come he just needed him to speak.
When you Know the real Jesus you understand he still is the God who.....
Walks on water
break down walls
opens blind eyes
heals the sick
Raises the dead
Do you Know this Jesus? This is the faith we should have. This should be the Jesus we believe in and know do You Know him.
Conclusion:
13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And the servant was healed in that hour.
13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And the servant was healed in that hour.
When Know Jesus is who he says he is and we come to him with a humble posture, and have the faith that Jesus still can raise the dead and we stay knowing the that power is in the person of Jesus Miracles happen.
