The World Is Ever Changing But God Remains The Same Part 1
Lesson Aim: Is to help believers learn to trust the consistency of God.
We live in a society and world that is continuously changing. Change is a constant in every walk of life. Therefore, the challenge of success in every believer’s life is to know the keys to dealing with the constant changes in life. For example:
Marriage Laws, drug laws
Today there is much less face to face communication than when I graduated from college. Years ago when you hung out with friends that meant actually seeing them in person. But today that means texting, snapchat or tictok or chatting of some kind.
Years ago email was the big thing but now its texting.
When I was in high school and college to gather information we had encyclopedias with 26 volumes a-z but today we surf the internet using google or yahoo.
When I started my profession career we did everything with a phone call from our desk or offices but today everyone has a cell phone.
Thank God no one had a cell phone when I was growing up or we would have been in trouble for a number of things. Today everything is captured on a camera on your devices or on a security camera that is literally everywhere.
My point is the world is constantly changing and very few things remain the same.
But God is the same yesterday today and forevermore.
The unchangeableness of God means: God is unchanging in His being, perfections, purposes, and promises.
Yet God does act and feel emotions, and he acts and feels differently in response to different situations but always consistent with His Holiness.
God is unchanging in His being. In who He is.
His perfections or character does not change. His attributes that make up who He is.
His peace, his Love, his longsuffering, His gentleness, His grace, His mercy, His wrath and His discipline does not change.
God is stable and consistent with his nature. This attribute of God is call God’s Immutability.
God can be trusted because His Word can be trusted. That is why He is the Rock! of our salvation!! Let’s look at scripture!
Psalm 102:25 NKJV
25 Of old You laid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands.
Psalm 102:26–27 NKJV
26 They will perish, but You will endure; Yes, they will all grow old like a garment; Like a cloak You will change them, And they will be changed. 27 But You are the same, And Your years will have no end.
God existed before the heavens and the earth and He will exist long after they have been destroyed. Why? While the world is changing God remains the same.
James 1:16–17 NKJV16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.
While earth is continually turning as it revolves around the sun. Every 24 hours it makes a rotation on its axis. Every 365 it revolves around the sun. God remains unchanged. He can be trusted because He remains the same.
Malachi 3:6 NKJV
6 “For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.
Psalm 33:11 NKJV
11 The counsel of the Lord stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations.
God’s purposes and plans do not change. God is never caught off guard by the changing circumstances in this world. Once God has determined that he will assuredly bring something to pass, his prupose is unchanging and it will be achieved.
Isaiah 46:9–11 NKJV
9 Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, 10 Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure,’ 11 Calling a bird of prey from the east, The man who executes My counsel, from a far country. Indeed I have spoken it; I will also bring it to pass. I have purposed it; I will also do it.
His promises do not change. If God said it, it will come to pass. He will not be unfaithful to that promise. Why?
Numbers 23:19 NKJV19 “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
This verse tells us, God does not change his mind, plans, or actions, for these rest on his nature, which remains unchanged no matter what occurs. Indeed
When we know that God is Sovereign and that He is control of all things then we know He can be trusted during the difficult times of our lives and that we must remain faithful to His Word!
Our lesson is taken from 1 Samuel 1 & 2 . The story of Hannah and Samuel who becomes the prophet and judge of Israel.
Hannah is barren because the Lord has shut up her womb 1 Samuel 1:5. While Peninnah her husbands second wife had sons and daughters by their husband Elkanah.
Elkanah went up yearly to worship and sacrifice to the Lord at Shiloh.
While he gave portions to Peninnah and all her sons and daughters but to Hannah he would give a double portion for he loved Hannah 1 Samuel 1:5.
Hannah prayed to the Lord and wept because of her anguish and barrenness.
When the priest Eli heard her crying he assumed she was drunk. But when Hannah spoke to him about her grief he prophesied to her and told her to Go in peace and the God of Israel grant your petition which you have asked of Him 1 Samuel 1:17.
Hannah received the prophecy by faith and worshipped the Lord.
When we understand the doctrine of immutability or that God does not change and can not lie is should give us peace and increase our faith in Him.
Because of her faith in the Lord she conceived and bore the child Samuel whom she dedicated to the Lord.
Because God does not change we like Hannah should praise Him! 1 Samuel 2:1-11.
She praised Him for His faithfulness or His consistency. He does not change He remains faithful to His covenant.
True to her word she dedicated Samuel to the Lord and presented him to the priest Eli in Shiloh.
Because of God’s immutability we can take comfort in four things:
Because God does not change we are protected and are not consumed.
Malachi 3:6 “For I am the LORD, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.
2. God’s love for you will never diminish, His love will never change.
You may have self doubt and uncertainty but God’s love remains the same.
3. God will fight for His children.
Many times throughout history God fought for Israel. He fought for Peter, Paul and others.
4. God is faithful and consistent.
God has no respect of person. What He does for others He can and is willing to do for you.
