James 1:19–27 (NKJV)
19 So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; 20 for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God. 21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. 26 If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless. 27 Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

Key Verse:

1. Let’s talk about music.

there is no verse that says “thou shalt not listen to secular music.” Just like there is no verse that says “thou shall not watch secular movies.”

The issue is influence. The more sin influence is in our life, the harder it is to walk in Holiness.

Ephesians 5:19 NKJV
19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,
to be sure the first cause of music is the worship of the Lord.
that’s why music is so addictive.

1. For years it has been believed that Satan when he was called Lucifer, was in charge of worship.

Ezekiel 28:13 NKJV
13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes Was prepared for you on the day you were created.

a. This is why music is so memorable.

Philippians 4:8 (NKJV)
8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

b. this is why Music is so connected to our memories.

This is why preachers preach so hard about how you engage in entertainment.
there are songs that just tale us back to special places.
Holy convocation, videos.
people.

2. Do NOT listen to gossip.

Proverbs 16:28 NKJV
28 A perverse man sows strife, And a whisperer separates the best of friends.
Proverbs 26:20 NKJV
20 Where there is no wood, the fire goes out; And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases.
Proverbs 11:13 NKJV
13 A talebearer reveals secrets, But he who is of a faithful spirit conceals a matter.
