Colossians 3:17 KJV 1900
17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians & Colossians (B. The Transformation of Christian Living (vv. 5–17))
This is what Max Anders says about Col. 3:17, “The life transformation process is to include any and all areas and activities of life. In all places, in all ways, the believer is to honor the name of the Lord Jesus. Genuine spirituality is not found by following false teaching which leads away from Christ. Genuine spirituality is found in having our lives transformed into the character of Christ.”

The Sum of a New Attitude is to walk and talk like Jesus did.

Philippians 2:5 KJV 1900
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Jesus tells us to be like Him

John 15:18–21 KJV 1900
18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. 19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. 20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. 21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me.
The Epistles to the Colossians, to Philemon and to the Ephesians (2. “Put on” (3:12–17))
F. F. Bruce states, “The Christian (whether of the apostolic age or any other generation), when confronted by a moral issue, may not find any explicit word of Christ relating to its particular details. But the question may be asked: “What is the Christian thing to do here? Can I do this without compromising my Christian confession? Can I do it (that is to say) ‘in the name of the Lord Jesus’—whose reputation is at stake in the conduct of his known followers? And can I thank God the Father through him for the opportunity of doing this thing?” Even then, the right course of action may not be unambiguously clear, but such questions, honestly faced, will commonly provide surer ethical guidance than special regulations may do.”

Paul give us more instructions on this subject in 1 Corinthians

1 Corinthians 10:31–33 KJV 1900
31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. 32 Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God: 33 Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.

The conclusion of this discourse gives us a lot to think about when it comes to having a New Attitude

Colossians 3:17 KJV 1900
17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

The word “and” connects the 16th and 17th verse together. Our words and conduct must be edifying.

Ephesians 4:29 KJV 1900
29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
Colossians 3:23–25 KJV 1900
23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; 24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. 25 But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.

We will be held accountable for what we say and do.

Matthew 12:34–37 KJV 1900
34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. 36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. 37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

A New Attitude must consist of Meditation on the word of God

Joshua 1:8 KJV 1900
8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
Psalm 119:97 (KJV 1900)
97 O how love I thy law! It is my meditation all the day.
Psalm 1:2 KJV 1900
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; And in his law doth he meditate day and night.
1 Timothy 4:15 KJV 1900
15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.

A New Attitude must consist of doing what the word says

Romans 2:13 KJV 1900
13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
James 1:22 KJV 1900
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
James 1:25 KJV 1900
25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

When our Attitude is to Meditate and be doers of the word we can praise God and give thanks with assurance.

Colossians 3:17 KJV 1900
17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Ephesians 5:15–20 ESV
15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, 19 addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, 20 giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

We must have a New Attitude about our living for the Lord God our Savior.

This is the Sum of a New Attitude of living for the Lord

Colossians 3:17 KJV 1900
17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
