The O.T. tells us that Jesus is coming. the bible is clear there is a messiah their is savior he is coming
The O.T. tells us where he is going to be born
Micah 5:2 NASB95
“But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Too little to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, From the days of eternity.”
We know about His childhood as an infant
Hosea 11:1 NASB95
When Israel was a youth I loved him, And out of Egypt I called My son.
We even have recorded in scripture the slaughter of those innocent babies by Herod
Jeremiah 31:15 NASB95
Thus says the Lord, “A voice is heard in Ramah, Lamentation and bitter weeping. Rachel is weeping for her children; She refuses to be comforted for her children, Because they are no more.”
We are told that he is going to inherit the throne of David
2 Samuel 7:12–16 NASB95
“When your days are complete and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your descendant after you, who will come forth from you, and I will establish his kingdom. “He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. “I will be a father to him and he will be a son to Me; when he commits iniquity, I will correct him with the rod of men and the strokes of the sons of men, but My lovingkindness shall not depart from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. “Your house and your kingdom shall endure before Me forever; your throne shall be established forever.” ’ ”
His kingdom is spiritual and that it will be everlasting
The O.T. says very loudly that Jesus is coming and more than that it speaks to the signs that he will perform
Then we open up the pages of our N.T. and much to our surprise he comes exactly how the O.T. said he was going to.
When he came not only was he rejected, maligned and misunderstood
Herod thought that his earthly throne was in jeopardy and he needed to do something about this Jesus king of the Jews
In the mind of the Jews the messiah was going to come and help them overthrow the Romans
the gentiles were disinterested and really not aware of his coming
John 1:10–11 NASB95
He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.
The world for the most rejected him even though the O.T. told them he was coming and was very specific in how and what he was going to do. Yet today we have the O.T. and N.T. and it has told us that he came, yet we still misunderstand why Jesus came at all. I have heard all sorts of reasons on why he came. some say he came came to die for our sins. Certainly that is part of it but Is there not more to it than that. If that was all there was to it 24 hrs after his birth he could have died. Why 33 years of existence on the earth?
Others say he came to feed the hungry to help people and to father some social justice movement. Jesus surely does make the world a better place and change people circumstances but there is far more to him than that
Others who don’t want to his religious bent he gives us some great life hacks, teaches how to live and gives us some great thing philosophically but he came for more than that.
It seems like wherever you go someone thinks they know why Jesus came, and people try and hijack Jesus for their own purposes. but what if I told you there passages in the Gospels that teach us exactly why he came. Words straight from his mouth that help us understand the exact reason why he came.
Jesus makes some statement that say this is what I came to do, these statements answer the question that we have been asking as we sing the song Why did my savior come to earth. we need to see why he came and appreciate why he came, intertwined with Why Jesus came is why we are here. and we will see what he desires from his disciples
Why did Jesus come?
Jesus came to preach the gospel.
Mk. 1:14-15,38
Mark 1:14–15 NASB95
Now after John had been taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
Mark 1:38 NASB95
He said to them, “Let us go somewhere else to the towns nearby, so that I may preach there also; for that is what I came for.”
“FOR THAT IS WHAT I CAME FOR”
Luke 4:43 NASB95
But He said to them, “I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, for I was sent for this purpose.”
Jesus came to preach the good news to people who really need it. this is what is life was all about. He was a preacher of the gospel. communicator of the truth so others can understand the message of God. not only was he that message he proclaimed it
Luke 2:46–47 NASB95
Then, after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard Him were amazed at His understanding and His answers.
Luke 4:16–21 NASB95
And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and as was His custom, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, and stood up to read. And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. And He opened the book and found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed, To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.” And He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on Him. And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”
he came to preach so that people might know the message that God wants the world to know. God had one son and he was the preacher. he was the best there every was and the best there ever will be. We only get to read these sermons but could you imagine what it would have been like to sit at the feet of jesus and hear our Savior preach.
Mark 2:2 NASB95
And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room, not even near the door; and He was speaking the word to them.
preached to a packed house. At one point the the pharisees sent guards to arrest him and they return empty handed
John 7:46 NASB95

never been to our schools but he is taking us to school
rate my Johns Sierpinski 1999 rate my professor there was no rate my rabbi.com but if there was he would be the number 1 for there was no one better. Luke says the stood watched and listen
Luke 4:22 NASB95
And all were speaking well of Him, and wondering at the gracious words which were falling from His lips; and they were saying, “Is this not Joseph’s son?”
not everything he said was easy to listen to sometime people would accept what he was saying but other times people say this a hard saying who can hear it and they would be offended.
He preached in parables, exegeted the O.T. changed, challenged, offended, broke hearts

We Must Listen Intently & Search Our Hearts!

when we read these sermons it should just bring a smile to our face but it should raise and eyebrow as we search our hearts and find ourselves in the parables and sermons and see is my life meeting up to the standard that God has given? Because Jesus makes people uncomfortable when he preaches because he challenges us to change our lives.
sometimes you see somebody do something and we say that this person was born to do this.
Mark 1:38 NASB95
He said to them, “Let us go somewhere else to the towns nearby, so that I may preach there also; for that is what I came for.”

Go & Do Likewise!

this is the challenge for us Jesus came to preach the gospel and he hands of the baton to Christians to do likewise
Mark 16:15 NASB95
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
the early Christians did not defy him in this. will we? Jesus came to preach the gospel and after he died and rose and ascended now Christians you have seen what I came to do and I want you to pick up where I left off.
Are we preaching the good news.
