Jude Sermon

Intro

We must be careful. In today’s age we are dealing with a lot of battling and wars in the church.

There are fires that are being started

Verse 1-2

Jude 1–2 NASB95

1 Jude, a bond-servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, To those who are the called, beloved in God the Father, and kept for Jesus Christ: 2 May mercy and peace and love be multiplied to you.

Like any letter Jude opens up his letter with a greetings. Jude is the brother of James, and a half brother of Jesus.

But notice, Jude does not identify himself as brother of Jesus, but as a servant of Jesus and the Brother of James.

look at he humility!!!!

Jude is in need to write a letter to a church of believers , He does not identify who this church or churches are. (something to think about)

Verse 3

Jude 3 NASB95

3 Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints.

Jude wants to write to this church about there shared salvation.

he wants to celebrate and have fellowship with other believers of the joy of being in Christ.

Jude wants to come in peace.

to celebrate

But something changed................................. there was a problem, the plan was

Necessity - need - force - distress - with urgency

Jude wanted to make sure that the church contend earnestly for the faith

CONTEND /EARNESTLY

this is a athletic statement, to contend you think of a fighter, #1 Contender.

this means to exert, an intense effort.

Jude wants us to earnestly contend, to make a intense effort for the faith

The faith - singular in the Greek

there is one faith,

Why are we are believers having many faiths

Ephesians 4:4–6 NASB95

4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.

Jude is say that he wants faith, to make an intense effort to for the ONE faith that he have

Verse 4

For certain persons have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

people coming in not noticed

pretending to be right.

destroying from the inside

The war here is not the enemy outside, but in

licentiousness

a lack of self constraint, which leads to violating the truth

pervert

so these people have come in unnoticed................smiles, they have come in and presented themselves as upright, as good. but there have other plans, other hidden agendas

Some are making up there own theology, there own rules, things that look right, but are not Biblical.

Verse 5

Now I desire to remind you, though you know all things once for all, that the Lord, after saving a people out of the land of Egypt, subsequently destroyed those who did not believe.

Jesus destroyed/ physically killed those who did not believe

the nation of Israel once in slavery in Egypt, Jesus delivered them but killed those who did not believe because they did not persevere in the faith.

This should be the example that we must follow. and watch out for.....

We must remain in the faith.

We must abide in Christ.

because they refused, to trust and obey and rely on the Lord Jesus Christ

John 15:4 NAS

“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.
