The Principal Commandment: To Love God (6:1–9)

And this is the commandment, the statutes and the ordinances, which the Lord your God commanded me to teach you, so that you may act accordingly in the land into which you are about to cross over to possess;
so that all the days of your life you may fear the Lord your God by keeping all his statutes and commandments, which today I am about to command you and your son and your grandson; and so that you might prolong your life.
So you shall hear, O Israel, and you shall take care to act accordingly, so that it may go well for you and so that you might increase greatly, just as the Lord God of your fathers said to you (a land flowing with milk and honey).
Hear, O Israel. The Lord our God is one Lord.
And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
And these commandments, which I am about to command you today, shall be upon your heart.
And you shall repeat them to your children, and you shall talk about them when you are sitting in your house and when you are walking in the road, and when you are lying down and rising up.
And you shall bind them as a sign upon your hand, and they shall be as frontlets on your forehead.
And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates,
