This article was published in a magazine in 1985 from a writing of Tozer’s who passed away in 1963. So, this was a question he was asking a long time ago.

Churches feel like they have arrived.
Churches feel like they have arrived.
The megachurches of our time feel as if they have everything they will ever need. They feel as if they should be patting themselves on the back because they have arrived.
However, there is one thing that is missing not only from these churches, but all churches.
Many churches are missing the genuine and sacred offering of ourselves and our worship to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The angel of the church of the Laodiceans made this charge and appeal to the church
17 For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.
19 Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.
Many of the churches are strong in evangelism, have very strong programs and are growing by leaps and bounds. However, even with all of this the question should always be asked,

The reply to this from many churches is that we have all we need. We are in need of nothing more.
Jean-Paul Sartre who turned to philosophy from the church says the reason why he did was, “I did not recognize in the fashionable God who was taught to me, Him who was waiting for my soul. I needed a Creator; I was given a big businessman!”

If the world sees a church which is at war within itself as well as other churches at war with each other, what message does that send to people who are lost. How are we any different than the groups they see? What difference does it make when we say we hate this group or that group?
When the world sees a church that is worshiping God correctly, like we’ve been talking about in the other study, they see a church who will truly love God, each other, and those outside the church. There isn’t anything else they could see.
When this happens, we won’t even recognize it.
