Ephesians 4:11–15
Ephesians 4:11–15 (NASB95)
11 And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers,
12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;
13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.
14 As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;
15 but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,
The Theological Dictionary of the New Testament ὑπεραυξάνω, αὐξάνω
1. ὑπεραυξάνω is seldom found; in the intr. act. it means “to grow to the extreme limit,” e.g., a fish which is already big, Plut. Fluv., 6, 2 (II, 1153c): in the mid. pass. it means “to attain very gt. power or authority,” Andoc. Or., IV, 24,” to achieve the highest position or status,” Dio C., 79, 15, 2.
2 Peter 3:17–18
17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness,
18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
Hebrews 5:11–14
11 Concerning him we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.
12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food.
13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant.
14 But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.
