Galatians 1

Welcome
Last week Jess did a great job fo asking us when we are going to stop making excuses
That is a great question and to add to that, I was told a long while ago that excuses are nails used to build your house of failure
I agree with what Jess said that we must stop making excuses and begin to be obedient to what God has called us to do
I know for me the it was how long am I going to make excuses about the sin in my life
This morning we will begin our series in Galatians
As we look at Galatians
We know that Paul wrote it and that it was written very early in Pauls ministry
Paul is writing to a group of churches in Galatia
Paul like most of all Pauls Letters writes an introduction to say who it is that is writing the letter and who the letter is to
1 Paul, an apostle (not sent from men nor through the agency of man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised Him from the dead), 2 and all the brethren who are with me, To the churches of Galatia: 3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, 4 who gave Himself for our sins so that He might rescue us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, 5 to whom be the glory forevermore. Amen.
Know this is almost like any of Pauls intros right
We have read some of Pauls letters and this one is practically no different and if we take that attitude
I think we begin to miss somethings
Now I am not going to take apart each and every one of Pauls intros but since we are in Galatians and since we are talking about Galatians
Pauls shares with the churches that he is writing them a letter
In that intro Paul explains that is it because of the grace of God that he writes to them
It is the grace of God that He sent Jesus His only son
That Jesus Himself gave up His own life for us
That Jesus paid for our debt because of sin so that we may be rescued
If Paul called the age he was living in, I dare to think what Paul would say about things now
In the intro Paul says that Jesus gave Himself up for us that we might be rescued from the evil age
That we might be saved because of the sin
Had Paul stopped there we would have not thought anymore of it
But Paul goes on to say that this what all according to the will of God
Gods will is that no one goes to hell
4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
God desires all men to come to know Him through a personal relationship with Jesus
32 “For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone who dies,” declares the Lord God. “Therefore, repent and live.”
This is an even old text that through it all God desires that all men would repent and trust in Him
It is important that Paul shares that in the introduction because he is going to cover a topic that is we are not careful
If we are not anchored in truth we will most certainly be swept away
6 I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel; 7 which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! 9 As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed! 10 For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ.
Paul doesn’t hold back
In fact he gets right to the point
He calls out those churches who are preaching a false Gospel
That Paul is so surprised that they have been dooped
And church Paul would say the same thing had he written to the churches in America
To the current church
I am shocked that you have been dooped
Understand this there is no other Gospel out there
10 let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by this name this man stands here before you in good health. 11 “He is the stone which was rejected by you, the builders, but which became the chief corner stone. 12 “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”
Peter in giving a sermon explains that there is no other name by which we are saved
But the church has been dooped into following the false teachers
Church the false teachers are running ram-pet
dare I say but in within our own denomination we have well known preachers who are more concerned with a social Gospel, and getting things right socially than we are will the eternity of those listining to the message
There are tons of false teachers out there who are more concerned with filling seats than speaking truth
Church I want to tell you that if you come here and are offended it will bother me, and it will bother me because I want to make sure we are preaching the truth of Gods word, and once I and the elders determine what was said was the truth of Gods word then I am fine if you are offended
I am fine if you choose not to join this local body of believers because you are offended by what the truth says
That is why Paul is so shocked
That there are people out there who would pervert the Gospel and whats even more shocking is that people are buying into it
There are prominent pastors who are more concerned with the social issues of our current age rather then sin problems of our eternal age
Hillsong Brian Elevations, Joal Olsteen, Matt Chandler
These are some guys that church you need to watch out for
Please here, this is not a we or I am better than they, this is a message from Galatians to us today to ensure we don’t get dooped
That we run everything through scripture that we know what the one true Gospel is church
That is what Paul is writing to them about that they would know the one true gospel and that is Jesus Christ
It is Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ alone
In a book I am reading Fresh Wind Fresh Fire by Jim Cymballa
He says
“What we are dealing with today is an Old Testament “vow religion” comprised of endless repetitions and commands to do all the right things. Modern Preachers, like Moses, come down from the mount calling for commitment. Everyone says yes but then promptly breaks the vow within two days. There is little dependence on God’s power to make an ongoing difference. There is little calling upon God to revolutionize us in a supernatural way.”
We have preachers today that say it is ok for you to remain in sin because God is love
We have preachers today who say that you are the God
We have preachers today who say that it is more important what you think God thinks of you then what God actually thinks of you
And church we get roped into it because they have a great social media presence, they have awesome websites, they have flashy music, they put on a great performance
We get dooped because the preacher has they great on liners right that all they do is repeat
And then when they get on TV and say that God doesn’t mention homosexuality as being a sin in the Gospels we believe it
Church we are to boldly preach just the word
6 Then he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel saying, ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the Lord of hosts.
Nothing else added to it and nothing taken away from it
We are to preach and teach the one true Gospel and church that is Jesus just Jesus
Paul says that if anyone preaches to you something different from what he orginally preached to them then that person is accursed
That is flat out wrong
I think Paul was encouraging them to be on alert so that they would not be swept away by the fluf and false teachers that are out there
That church today we are to run everything through scripture
Read the Bible for yourself ensure the preacher is saying what the scriptures says
The Paul shares with them to be fruit inspectors
look at the pastors
look at the preachers
are they seeking the approval of men or of God
you will see it in there life like Paul
Paul refers to himself as a bond servant
The preacher should be a bond servant to God and God alone
But I fear we have far more preachers who are catering to what the world wants to hear
Jim Cymballa writes
“Especially since the 1960s, fads have come and gone in the North American church, only to be replaced by newer fads. Leonard Ravenhill, the revival minded preacher and author from Britain, told me shortly before he died, “People say the church today is growing and expanding. Yes, it’s ten miles wide and about a quarter inch deep.”
Want to know how to grow a church?
Just jump on the other new fad
Tell people what they want to hear rather then what they should hear
Jess had to preach that message because that was the message that God gave him to preach to you and I
I am betting that we didn’t want to hear those heard things
No body wants to hear that there is punishment for sin
But listen to me
There is punishment for sin
20 “The person who sins will die. The son will not bear the punishment for the father’s iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the son’s iniquity; the righteousness of the righteous will be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself.
to go with what Jess said
Church stop making excuses for the sin in your life
And stop asking God to bless your life knowing you are in sin
It won’t happen
Church our message needs to be that of
14 and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
We should be shouting that from our rooftops
We should be sharing that on social media
We should be speaking truth to people rather than being concerned if they are offended
See the one true Gospel that Paul is referring to is this
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
That is the truth
The only way we get through Jesus is by being broken over our sin and repent and trust in Jesus
That we flee from our sin church
That we trust that Jesus is who he says he is and will do and is doing what he said he will doing and is doing
That is what we preach
We preach that sin is sin
We preach that God cannot and will not be a part of sin
Which is why the sin in your life currently and my life currently is causing a divide
The answer for that divide church is to repent
That is what Paul was so shocked about
They have just receive that message from Paul and then words got twisted and they started listening to these famous preachers who preached sermons and never once used scripture
CLOSING
As the band comes up
Maybe you are here and do not have a personal relationship with Jesus
You have never repented of sin and trusted Jesus in your life
We would invite you to do that this morning
You can walk out of darkness this morning and into light
Or maybe you are here and have been dooped
You have been dooped into believing a false Gospel
I would invite you this morning to repent and run to Jesus
Or maybe you need to join the church
Or spend time in prayer at the altar
The altar is open
