Songs of the Summer

The Psalms that make up the book of Psalms were written over the course of about 1000 years by numerous authors.
David wrote 73 of the 150, just under half.
The last Psalm written was likely written in the later half of 5th century BC, nearly 2500 years ago.
The word Psalm basically translates from Hebrew as “song” or “melody”.
So the book of Psalms really is a book of songs.
A playlist that has been passed down for thousands and thousands of years.
And just like if you pick up a mix tape, or mix disc one of your friends made you when you were in High School, the songs just never get old do they.
These 3000 year old lyrics are still some of the most popular and meaningful passages we read and meditate on still today.
They are unique in comparison to any other book of the bible, in that they are not historical accounts, prophetic declarations, or instructive letters.
When you look through the Psalms there is such a variety of emotions expressed.
The Psalms are intimate, emotional, transparent writings that come from people who were asking questions, crying out for help, lamenting painful circumstance, praising God, and so many other, deeply personal expressions.
There is a section on Spotify you can go to called “Moods” that is full of different kinds of playlists, like...
