Introduction:
Begin with a statement on conflict in general – Everyone is faced with it, the question is how do you handle it?
(2 main points to be discussed)
I. Conflict can be dealt with through biblical behavior
II. Thinking drives biblical behavior
I. Through biblical behavior
A. Relationships (Phil. 4:1)
B. Addressing the women – the conflict was enough to hurt the local church (Phil. 4:2)
1. Reframe the conflict
a.) Be of same mind
b.) Accountability as Christians
C. Develop a culture in personal and public life
1. Of “rejoicing” (v. 4)
2. Be motivated by the “nearness” of the Lord (v. 5)
D. Be devoted to prayer (v. 6)
1. it addresses anxiety
2. it promises God’s peace
“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” -Rom. 12:1-2
Illustration on the psychology of “positive thinking” -
Transition to 2nd point – The result is that the God of Peace will guard your heart and mind in Christ (v. 7)
II. Thinking drives biblical behavior (Umbrella effect)
A. Now you are prepared for conflict
1. put these behaviors in v. 8 into practice
2. Result – The God of Peace will be with you during the conflict
