Acts 6:8-10KJV

8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. 9 Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen. 10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

THE NATURE OF THE WORD OF WISDOM

A suitable definition of the spiritual gift identified as “the word of wisdom” is found in Carter: “. . . the supernatural revelation, to an individual, of the mind and purpose of God.

Ø      The best way to explain what something is, would be to understand how it is used

Ø      First there is noted in the discourse of Stephen on trial for blasphemy.

Ø      Another use is found in the Gospels concerning what we shall say when we are before our adversaries

Matthew 10:19-20KJV

19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. 20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.

Luke 21:15KJV

15 For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

The gift reinforced Paul’s defensive arguments before Felix, Festus, and Agrippa.

1 Corinthians 2:13KJV

13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

Ø       When Moses was chosen to deliver the children of Israel, he was gifted with the word of wisdom to qualify him for his huge task.

Ø       Nowhere in Scripture is the word of wisdom more wonderfully displayed than in the ministry of Christ.
