Does This Church Have the Comforter
Does This Church Have the Comforter?
John 14:15-18KJV
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
At all the churches that I can remember worshipping at there has at one time or another been songs like “Come Holy Spirit, I need you, come sweet Spirit I pray come in your strength and your power, come in thine own gentle way”
We have prayed for the Spirit, hoped for the Spirit, asking begging Him to come to us. But we should all know the truth the Holy Spirit was here before we ever came into this room! He came at Pentecost!
Did you know even though we are a Pentecostal believing church that it you can go here or to any church and still not know Him?
I was reading something that David Wilkerson had written and I came upon something that truly made me think. He said “Some might say yes I received the Spirit when Jesus saved me. It was the Holy Spirit that brought me into Christ’s kingdom. Others answer Yes I have received the Holy Spirit because I spoke in tongues when He came into my life”
1. How do we receive and feel the Spirit?
a. What would most say if confronted with the question have you received the Holy Spirit since you believed?
b. How do we keep him close? We do God’s will! Verse 15
c. Who supplies the comforter? Does your favorite evangelist? The mega church somewhere? A televangelist? No! only Jesus! Verse 16
1 John 3:24KJV
24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
2. What does a “Comforter” do?
a. That’s easy He gives comfort! In what ways? What way do you need in a comforter?
1 John 4:4KJV
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
He has already defeated Satan, and He will do it again for you right now!
b. The comforter leads us!
Romans 8:14KJV
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
c. Why don’t my friends understand me when I try to tell them about the Holy Spirit? Verse 17
3. Will the Comforter really help me?
a. Jesus said He wouldn’t leave us comfortless! And He won’t! Verse 17 “He dwelleth with you and shall be in you”
Hebrews 13:5-6KJV
5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
b. Do you want to do something for God?
Acts 1:8KJV
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
c. Have a problem a need? Let God’s Holy Spirit into your life and allow God to help you instead of making it worse on yourselves!
