Our scripture reading today is going to be from 1st Corinthians chapter 7. I know that's a big surprise.
Just kidding.
We were unable to get through everything that the Lord had for us last week.
So we are going to finish it today, but 1st Corinthians chapter 7. We're going to read verses 10 through 16.
Now, to the married I command yet, not I but the Lord, a wife is not to depart from her husband, but even if she does depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband.
And a husband, is not in the divorce his wife, but to the rest, I not the Lord, say if any brother has a wife who does not be weeds and she is willing to live with him, let him not divorce her.
And a woman who has a husband, who does not believe, if he is willing to live with her, let her not divorce him.
Where the unbelieving husband is Sanctified by the wife and the unbelieving wife is Sanctified by the husband.
Otherwise, your children would be unclean but now they are wholly.
A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases, but God has called us to peace.
Or how do you know where, or how do you know?
Your wife is already blessed by the reading and hearing of his word.
This morning, please be seated.
As it was last week.
Our topic is what about divorce.
1st Corinthians chapter 7 last week.
We looked at verses 10 through 14.
Today will do verses 15 and 16.
What about divorce as we tackle this completely non controversial topic I'm going to pray.
Father, I thank you so much for your word.
And as we saw already in song in Sunday, School in every way your word does not leave us comfortable.
And father, I pray that as we hear your word as it is taught, as it is explained, our hearts would be open and receptive.
Our ears attentive, and our hearts and lives ready to be transformed by the truth of your word.
Father, I ask that you would take this imperfect broken vessel, that is me.
and use Me For Your Glory that I would clearly and passionately declare the truth of your word.
We thank you and we praise you father, knowing that you have incredible things in store for us in Jesus name.
Amen.
Recently, I was watching a video online and in this video there was a group of people all, but one of which were married and had children and somehow, as they were talking in the conversation, got around you, what their perfect day would be like, and all of these that married couples with children, describe their perfect day, like this, they said, well, the kids would be picked up by a grandparent or a babysitter, and I would get to sleep in.
I would wake up and I would have my coffee or Mighty, or whatever, on the porch and I would relax and later on, I would get to do whatever activity.
I found enjoyable, maybe I would watch a movie and have dinner and relax on the couch by myself and with my spouse and we would just have this wonderful relaxing day.
And a single guy looks at all of them and he says you know, all of you keep telling me that I need to get married, but what you're describing is my life, you're perfect day is my everyday.
Why would I want to change it?
Our culture has this perspective of marriage, right?
It's just messed up thing and those of us who are married go.
Yep, sometimes it's uncomfortable sometimes, it's not fun.
Sometimes marriage is less than perfect.
Anyone else have that issue?
But marriage, with all of its faults and its foibles, I would not trade it for anything.
Pause topic is marriage.
He was asked a question by these Believers.
What do we do with this idea of marriage?
And we need to recognize that impulse culture, marriage was much like it is today.
Last week, we read a commentary that talked about four different kinds of marriage that existed in Paul's day, some of the people in Corinth, where Paul addresses, this letter had been married up to 20 times.
And we will get our children.
We go.
Well, we're not that bad yet.
There is all this difficulty surrounding marriage and Paul is writing to address this.
So this is very relevant for us today.
Our goals for today or the same as they were last week, so, we'll review.
Then marriage is a sacred institution designed by God for the benefit of all Humanity.
Scripture make that very clear.
It starts off in Genesis, right?
He says for this, cause shall a man leave father, and mother and be joined to his wife and a Jew, shall be one flesh.
And you know, this idea of America goes all the way to Revelation where there is going to be a marriage in heaven between the bride of Christ.
His body, the church and Christ himself.
Marriage is a sacred institution designed by God for the benefit of all Humanity.
Therefore the definition and Defense of Marriage is vinyl.
Whatever you want it to be.
God's word says otherwise we have to Define it but then we also have to defend it.
Someone finish this phrase, for me, the best defense is a good offense.
Do you want to know how we are going to best defend marriage by having an awesome?
Christian marriages, that's how we're going to do it.
How do we have awesome?
Well I'm glad you asked.
That's what Paul is going to deal with.
If we are going to understand what scripture teaches about divorce and remarriage, there are three key elements that we must grasp.
Because knowing the truth about divorce enables us to better defend marriage.
That's where we are going.
We saw the first one and a half key elements.
Last week, we're going to look at the rest today.
I do want to review where we were going because it's all kind of holds together until we're going to run through where we were last week and then move right into where we're going this week.
The first key element if we're going to understand and marriage and divorce.
The first key element is we need to know the heart of God, know the heart of God, a heart of God is the most important piece of information.
We can have about any topic.
Is not on Grier.
And his opinion about divorce and remarriage marriage and divorce.
Last week, we read the whole section in Malachi today.
We're just going to do verse 16, Malachi chapter 2 verse 16 says this for the Lord.
God of Israel says that.
He hates divorce brake covers, ones government with violence as the Lord of hosts.
Therefore, take heed to your spirit that you do not deal.
Treacherously.
Well God does not mince any words, it's only three God hates divorce.
Okay, that's good for your message.
This is the heart of God.
It is a serious business to break the Covenant of marriage.
God hates divorce.
This is the truth that underlies.
Paul's words in these verses, but as we mentioned last week, does that mean that God their foreheads people who have been divorced?
Know, We have to handle this topic, carefully and accurately, and that is what we are seeking to do.
Please remember, this first point is simply dealing with the heart of God.
God designed marriage to be a wonderful blessed Union.
And so that is his heart, he hates divorce.
I told you, we look at these directives, there's two directors that God gives that help us understand his heart.
And the first is, do not depart, do not depart in First Corinthians chapter 7, verse 10. Paul writes.
This he says now to the Marin guy command yet, not I but the Lord, a wife is not to depart from her husband and then the end of verse 11 and a husband is not to divorce.
His wife don't break up the marriage.
Don't depart don't divorce, that has the clear message here and do our lesson was that God desire marriage to be permanent.
That is his heart.
So we see the heart of God.
