Do you Believe What you Know?
This thought has intrigued me this week. This question challenges us. It is a powerful question.
Do you Believe what you know?
It challenges us because it makes us face some things about ourselves.
In This passage today we see what happens when we live like we believe what we know.
Read Scripture Acts 2:14-41
Peter takes them back to what they knew - The Old Testament Scriptures, Remember guys, this was predicted long ago. What is happening now the Lord told us about.
Then he points them to the words of King David, who was also a prophet. In King David penned words in the Old Testment, he is pointing to Christ, not himself. He is pointing to what God would do for the Messiah and then Peter goes on to show them how Jesus was the fullfillment of these prophecies.
What Can We Do?
What a valid question when something goes wrong or we screw up, What can we do? The crowds hearts were peirced with conviction over their part of the very story Peter told.
Peter gives very solid advice, Each of you- EACH of you must repent of your sins.
Peter gives a list of things for new believers to do and I would even encourage the more mature believers to do this as well.
1. Repent
2. Turn to God
3. Be baptized in the name of Jesus for the forgiveness of your sins.
4. Then recieve the gift of the Holy Spirit.
This is a promise to those who were there listening and those who would believe in the future.
This was the beginning of the modern day church. This is where our hertiage comes from. Remember Jesus said to Peter on you Peter I will build my church. Peter was believing what he knew.
In front of his very eyes, the Lord's words to him were coming to pass.
So what does this mean for us?
While it means that we have to choose. We have to choose if we will believe what we know.
Maybe you are saying come on Pastor Jenn, I wouldn't be listening if I didn't believe. Maybe but if I ask you when was the last time you encountered the Lord? or When was the last time you seen God at work or you heard from Him?
