A psalm of the descendants of Korah, to the choir director.....
Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?
They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:) That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption. For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others. Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names. Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish. This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah. Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.
But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.
To the choir director, it is the authors intent that this song be sung and broadcasted, it is to be published and decreed. This decree is a decree that every believer can broadcast, a decree that we can put our confidence in, that God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me!
God shall redeem, to save, to rescue from, to be ransomed. But notice here that the writer says “They (unbelievers) trust in their wealth and boast of great riches, yet they cannot redeem themselves from death by paying a ransom to God.” No man, no woman, no boy, or girl can ever redeem themselves from death, there is not enough money in this world, no world currency that can redeem a person from death. But thank God, there is a man that was able to pay the price! This man Jesus Christ, payed the ransom of death for us, he paid the price to save us from the grave, he paid the price so that one day we can live forever. The grave may be the eternal home for those who don’t believe, but for every believer, every blood washed believer, every Spirit filled believer, this is not our destiny! The writer says “in the morning the godly will rule over them (the unbeliever)”. Then the Psalmist says “But as for me, God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave.” Jesus already paid the price, Jesus already satisfied the debt, and in the morning....He’s going to rescue Mother Phylis Mack, in the morning He’s going to rescue all the saints that have gone before us, testify to your neighbor and tell your neighbor....neighbor......HEY neighbor......God is going to rescue me from the power of the GRAVE!
