I choose to believe the Bible because it is a reliable collection of historical documents written down by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses. They reported supernatural events that took place in fulfillment of specific prophecies and claimed that their writing are divine rather than human in origin.

So what?

If what we are saying that comes from the bible is true, then what is coming from the Bible?

The reality is this world is broken. And like a mosaic, the brokeness of this world is made up of our own sin. We lie, cheat, steal, lust, we are lazy and at times downright uncaring.

Romans 3:23

If we understand anything about right and wrong we understand that right is to be celebrated and wrong is to be punished. This is why the courts exist.

If I break the law when I drive, I go to court. if I plow through a crowd of civilians with my car intentionally, its likly the severity of my punishment will be equal to my offence.

So we have built up this lifetime of not just violating the laws of the land, but violating the laws of God. There has to be a just judge to give us our sentence.

Most of the time, this is where the story stops right? This is were we see people with crazy signs. God HATES _________

So what can we do to please this angry God who wants to kill us?

The reality is God wants nothing more then to bring his creation (US) back to himself. He wants to save us from our self.

Relationship between God and Man.

I created ________, and invited him in this perfect world. I gave him EVERYTHING, and told him just obey me as LORD OF HIS LIFE in this one area and all of this will be yours, you will rule over it and it will be subject to you. nothing will touch it, not even death.

you made the choice to disobey me in hope to gain something that you could never have(fake spit on my shoe).

because i’m perfect, i cannot be around you anymore. (separate) (fake spit and walk away)

i’m gonna spend 1000 years doing nothing but seeking you. calling for you as you claw in the darkness trying to gain something that was never yours in the first place.

Ezekiel 36:26 ESV

And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

All the while hinting that all of these things will come short. All of these things will lack. No matter how hard you try to reach me with your good deads you will always fail. you will never reach me. And as you reach out in the darkness, I know there is just one way to touch your hand and that is for me to send my only son. my boy. Jesus Christ to you, knowing you will kill him. You will scorn him, but his death and burial will bring about restored relationship between us. my plan is not complete, because even though death has claimed my Son, it has not conquered him. He will raise, deafeating death and with it the power of Sin to separate us from God.

So when I ask you what can please this angry God who wants to kill us, the answer is nothing. because he’s already killed his son on our behalf. The work has been done. and we bear only one responsibility. Believe the Gospel. Trust In Christ that he is the LORD OF YOUR LIFE and obey him in this one area. stop clawing in the darkness know that Christ has come to rescue you.

He has answered for your crimes in a court of Law and stood their and gave his life a ransom.

So why does the Bible matter. because it hold this one truth. We have Hope.
