Read: Luke 22:1–20

“And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.”

In His infinite wisdom, God looked into future centuries and saw that His people would be prone to forget Him in their pursuits of life. Therefore He established certain ceremonies which would remind them of His grace toward them.

During the Old Testament period, the feast of the Passover served to remind Israel that God had delivered them from death in Egypt that they might begin a new life in the land of Canaan.

Just prior to His crucifixion, Jesus observed the Passover Feast with His disciples; at which time He dissolved all other facets of this feast except the bread wine, which He gave a new significance—to represent His body and blood as the sacrifice for sins to all who would accept Him as their Savior. Paul says: “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace”

Ephesians 1:7 Paul writes to the church in Ephesus.....“ He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.”

JESUS SAID, “THIS DO IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.”.....Jesus is instructing His Disciples as well as you and I to do this.....

1. Jesus says, Remember My mission into the world, Luke 4:18–19 18 “ The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, 19 and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.”

2. Jesus says, Remember My temptation in the wilderness, Matthew 4:1 “Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil.”

3. Jesus says, Remember what I taught about salvation, John 3:3 “Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.”

4. Jesus says, Remember why I called you into service, Matthew 4:19 “Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!”

5. Jesus says, Remember what I said about your cross, Luke 9:23 “Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me.”

6. Jesus says, Remember what I taught each of you about love, John 15:17 “This is my command: Love each other.”

7. Jesus says, Remember what I taught you about hell, Matthew 18:8 “So if your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one hand or one foot than to be thrown into eternal fire with both of your hands and feet.

8. Jesus says, Remember what I taught about heaven, John 14:1–3 “1 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. 2 There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3 When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.

Is it me or am I remembering that I use that scripture almost weekly? Well, we need to be at peace with Jesus preparing a place for us. AMEN

9. Jesus says, Remember what I said about My presence, Matthew 18:20 “For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.”

We are assured, told, retold, promised that He is with us, when we seek Him, when we talk or pray with Him.......

10. Jesus tells us: Remember that I have prayed for you, Luke 22:32 “But I have pleaded in prayer for you, Simon, that your faith should not fail. So when you have repented and turned to me again, strengthen your brothers.”

11. Jesus tells us to Remember that you (we, you and I) are My witnesses, Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

12. And last but surely not least........Jesus instructs us to Remember what HE taught about humility. James 4:6-10 tells us:

“6 And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” 7 So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. 9 Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.

Only upon properly remembering these things shall we be privileged to know the blessings of eternal life. AMEN
