Psalm 34:8
Psalm 34:8
Taste and see that the Lord is good.
Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!
Pete the cat was in a dilemma!
He LOVED bananas - unlike me, but that is another story
But, he encountered a bad banana. And, that bad banana caused him to have a disgust towards bananas.
No matter what Pete’s mom did, she could not convince him to try bananas again.
Eventually , he tried bananas again and enjoyed them. Life would have been a lot easier for Pete if he hadn’t experienced a bad banana.
This got me thinking about our world and the people we encounter.
We declare that God is good
We declare that we have tasted and seen that God is good
We declare that life is better with God
But, sometimes our world doesn’t hear that declaration because they have encountered a bad banana
The bad banana may not be you or anyone here
But, somewhere along the line people encountered someone who claimed to imitate God, but they did a poor job and made ALL of us bananas distasteful.
Some people in our world have tasted the Goodness of God and followed God for a while only to have someone do or say something that causedthem to fall astray .
Our valley is full of people who once followed God and believed He was good- only to have a bad experience and fall away.
If we are to declare that God is good then let us model that goodness in our lives
Let us not be rotten fruit that disgusts our world
Let us be the kind of fruit that is attractive, appealing, for our world.
May the world Taste and See that the Lord is Good THROUGH US!
COMMUNION
As we prepare to receive communion we do so as a people who have experienced the goodness of God - especially through the life, death, and resurrection of Christ.
But, may we also be enabled to be the kind of people who display God’s goodness to our world.
So, we receive this morning as a people who allow the aftertaste of God’s goodness to permeate us and bless the world through us.
