1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.
Wait… our old man was crucified so that we’d no longer be slaves of sin? That’s *why* our old man was crucified with Him?
34 Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.
Our condition, is WAY more severe than just “lost.” we are SLAVES of sin!
What does that mean?
13 And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
Dominion:
to dominate (completely) v. — to exercise control over someone as his master.
If sin has “dominion” over us, what does that mean?
18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find.
19 For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice.
20 Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.
21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good.
22 For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man.
23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?
One of the biggest problems in life that Jesus came to solve, is that we don’t even have free will without Him!
Step back a moment:
What do you have the ability to control?
where you were born
who your parents/siblings are?
your body features?
how others respond to you?
Can you control how you respond to situations?
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,
4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
Only one thing can grant us actual free will! The actual ability to choose how we react, and how we respond!
The law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus!
This is illustrated in Galatians 5:16
Do you understand? Jesus gave us free will!
All the people out there, are slaves to their emotions, their environment, external stimulus, and whatever else happens to them!
Only we, how have the Holy Spirit, are able to break from from the determined reaction of our biology, and upbringing, and external stimulus! WE’RE THE ONLY ONES WHO ARE TRULY FREE!!!
17 But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.
Even though we are slaves, we have the ability to obey from the heart, doctrine delivered to us.
What was the form of doctine?!
THAT CHRIST CAN MAKE US FREE!
THAT’S WHAT HE DOES!! He brings the ability to get you out! To change your situation! To change YOU!!! HE CHANGES US! HE GIVES US THE ABILITY TO BREAK FREE!!!
BECAUSE OF CHRIST, WE’RE THE ONLY HUMANS ON THE EARTH WHO CAN BE FREE!!!
Lastly, you can’t change anything or control anything, really. You can’t control people, governments, Satanic agendas, natural events or disasters, the economy, other drivers, nothing...
But you CAN go to the one who CAN change things! You CAN go to the one who brings freedom!
If you can bring Him into your life, He brings freedom!
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
eleutheria
liberty n. — personal freedom from servitude, confinement, or oppression.
The people around us are NOT free.
28 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise.
29 But, as he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, even so it is now.
2. Why get anxious, worried, or even angry about things you can’t control?
3. Since we can’t control things, our choice is to prioritize the one who can.
IMAGINE, knowing, you can’t control things, you have access to the one who can, and NEGLECTING HIM!!! IMAGINE THAT!!!
