Introduction

The purpose of light is to
++Dispels darkness
++Displaces it

Have you ever been in dark place?

A place so dark that you could physically feel the darkness.
John 12:35 ESV
35 So Jesus said to them, “The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.
In the Darkness
++There is uncertainty
++There is Fear
John 3:19 ESV
19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.
Darkness has become an ally
++To evil works
++To those that practice evil
Luke 11:33 ESV
33 “No one after lighting a lamp puts it in a cellar or under a basket, but on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light.

The answer to darkness is the light

John 1:4–5 ESV
4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
It defeats the purpose of darkness
++To have a lamp and not light it
++To hide your lamp
When Your lamp is lit
++People will see more than the lamp
++People will see the light

16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

How do I light my Lamp?

The Word of God

To light your lamp
++You will need the fire of the word
Jeremiah 20:9 ESV
9 If I say, “I will not mention him, or speak any more in his name,” there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with holding it in, and I cannot.
There has to be something in you.

The Oil -the Anointing

To light your lamp
You will need the fire of the word
++You will need the anointing
Matthew 25:1–4 ESV
1 “Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. 3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps.
Don’t leave home without it.
Isaiah 10:27 ESV
27 And in that day his burden will depart from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck; and the yoke will be broken because of the fat.”

27 And it shall come to pass in that day, That his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, And his yoke from off thy neck, And the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.

Because of the anointing

Faith

To light your lamp
You will need the fire of the word

God has called us to be
++Committed followers of Jesus
++Powerful on Prayer
++Purposeful in life
++Effective in our witness

1 Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. 2 For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you.
It is not your glory
It is the
++Glory of the Lord
++His Glory being revealed

There is a people

Isaiah 9:2 ESV
2 The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.

They are waiting for the light

It is a people
++That walk in darkness
++Who’s whole world is dark
++Looking for the light
Luke 1:76–77 ESV
76 And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, 77 to give knowledge of salvation to his people in the forgiveness of their sins,
Luke 1:79 ESV
79 to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

They are looking for the light

We must
++Prepare the Way-evangelism
++Show the Way-Discipleship
++Get out of the way-Forgiveness
++Light the Way- Holiness

They are waiting on you

Romans 8:19 ESV
19 For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God.

God wants to fill the House

To fill the House

16 But he said to him, “A man once gave a great banquet and invited many. 17 And at the time for the banquet he sent his servant to say to those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’
The master
++Prepared a great meal
++Spared no expense
++Invested before he invited

To fill the House
There was Preparation
++There was an Invitation
He started with people that he knew
These were the people
++On the List
++In his address book
++Considered friends
These people also knew Him
++He said come
++The table is set
++All you have to do is come
Matthew 11:28 ESV
28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
These people were able unwilling
It is easy to make excuses with people you know
They thought surely the master will understand
++I am too busy
++I don’t have the time
++I have other priorities
The master was angry but he didn’t give up
An invitation doesn’t mean they will come
To fill the House
There was Preparation
There was an Invitation
++There was a Collection
Luke 14:21 ESV
21 So the servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house became angry and said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor and crippled and blind and lame.’
Don’t Give up-Go get them
Think about what God has done
He told his servant
++Go out again
++Go quickly
++Go to the streets
Gather them in
++The Poor
++The Cripple
++The Blind
++The Lame
Luke 14:22 ESV
22 And the servant said, ‘Sir, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.’
There will alway be room
To fill the House
There was Preparation
There was an Invitation
There was a Collection
++There was Persuasion
Jude 21–23 ESV
21 keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. 22 And have mercy on those who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh.

Light Your Lamp

Tell someone about Jesus
++Give and invitation to people that know you
++Bring someone that can’t come on their own
++Tell someone your story and urge them to come.
