Summary
Covenant between God and all of creation that he will never again destroy the earth with a flood.
Divine pledge between God and Noah given unconditionally . No matter what this world does, God will not cause a flood to take place that destroys anything ever again
The sign of this covenant is a rainbow
It is an everlasting covenant
Beginnings
Genesis 6:1-7
This area of Scripture is extremely easy to understand if we do not allow unbiblical sources to cloud our understanding
Over time, man got busy populating the earth
Family trees can grow pretty quickly
Over a generation of a family with 5 kids and produce 25 grandchildren
Verse 2-4
Two people types
Sons of God
Daughters of men
Really simple
God’s people - Sons of God
Those that feared Him
Those that sought Him
The world - Daughters of men
Those that reject Him
Those that run from Him
These two groups started to intermarry and reproduce resulting in a mixed group of people
Giants
Physical - Goliath
Before the flood, this earth very different
What we see in our bodies today is the cost of 6,000 years of sin
Prominence - Harry Kim; not a giant in stature but a giant over 50 years of service to the community
But, the book of enoch says.... Don’t care what the book of enoch says because the book of enoch is false and has been rejected by the church for centuries.
Verse 5-7
Over time the more man focuses on man the more wicked man becomes.
Continually devolving into more and more wickedness
Imagination has no bounds
God says enough is enough
Need a reset
Used Noah to reset this world
Genesis 6:17 - Telling of judgement
Genesis 6:18 - Salvation, type of Christ, through the ark
Command - Genesis 9:1-7
Be fruitful and multiply
You have dominion over all
Eat meat, but slay the animal first so that is is dead
Don’t kill each other
Sounds really simple
But man devolved again
Today, whales have more rights than unborn children
The nordic tree fern is more protected than man
We are killing eachother every minute
Covenant - Genesis 9:8-11
God unto Noah
Perpetual, everlasting between God and creation
No more flood to destroy everything
Sign - Genesis 9:12-17
God promises to remember
Gives us a rainbow so that we will remember
Universal, unconditional and everlasting covenant between God and man sealed by God and man given given a sign through a rainbow
Despite how man is today in violating those simple commands, God will never destroy the earth and all the inhabitants there of with a flood.
Conclusion
God’s chosen people
God’s providence in His choosing
God’s purpose
Witnesses
Show the blessings of a relationship of God
The Scriptures
The Messiah
Israel a Covenant Nation
God would deal with them through agreements
Some conditional and some unconditional
First example is that of Noah and God’s promise to never flood the earth again.
We have rainbows today, remember!
