Introduction (Rev 1:1-8)

Confession: Love and fear for the book

G. K. Chesterton humorously quipped regarding Revelation, “Though St. John the Evangelist saw many strange monsters in his vision, he saw no creature so wild as one of his own commentators

Genre: Apocalyptic (video- Biblie project)

What I do not mean:

Revelation is not a cryptic messages to solve (National Treasure)
Revelation is not something directly applied to our modern age
Revelation is not a fortune teller glass ball
Revelation is not a theological debate to divide the church
Revelation is not to be primarily taken literally

What I mean:

Revelation is meant to reveal God in all his glory (One God with his one people, Father’s promises kept, Jesus revealed as conquering King, Spirit saturating a new creation)
Revelation is a message to the church (locally & globally)
Revelation is a book of good news (time to repent)
Revelation is a book of true Justice
Revelation is a book of hope- All things made new (Rev 21-22)

The key to unlocking

V. 1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ
“Soon” (our age- he is coming) 2 Pet 3:8
Daniel 2:27–30 ESV
Daniel answered the king and said, “No wise men, enchanters, magicians, or astrologers can show to the king the mystery that the king has asked, but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days. Your dream and the visions of your head as you lay in bed are these: To you, O king, as you lay in bed came thoughts of what would be after this, and he who reveals mysteries made known to you what is to be. But as for me, this mystery has been revealed to me, not because of any wisdom that I have more than all the living, but in order that the interpretation may be made known to the king, and that you may know the thoughts of your mind.
