Waiting - v5-6

Not Hiding

Genesis 3:8–10 ESV
And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.”

My Soul Waits - New birth required

John 3:3 ESV
Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Isaac Watts - Psalm 130 Pardoning Grace
[Just as the guards that keep the night Long for the morning skies, Watch the first beams of breaking light, And meet them with their eyes; So waits my soul to see thy grace, And, more intent than they, Meets the first openings of thy face, And finds a brighter day.]

Unbelievers are not looking for the Lord

John 3:19–21 ESV
And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”

Hope

Solid Hope

Hebrews 11:1–2 ESV
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation.
When the Bible speaks of hope, it is NOT “I hope so”; it is assurance
Mark 3:26–27 ESV
And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but is coming to an end. But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. Then indeed he may plunder his house.
Jesus explains the solidity of Hope; His absolute Lordship or Sovereignty. The Spirit, who IS God cannot be overpowered by Satan or his minions.

In His Word - v5

John 5:38–40 ESV
and you do not have his word abiding in you, for you do not believe the one whom he has sent. You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.

In Christ specifically

2 Corinthians 4:13–15 ESV
Since we have the same spirit of faith according to what has been written, “I believed, and so I spoke,” we also believe, and so we also speak, knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence. For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.
We do not have hope in people, not even church people or churches; only if they are relying on and following the Word of God, which leads us to the person and ministry of Christ, extended to us by the person of the Spirit

Redemption - v1-4, 7-8

Reason for Hope - v1-4, 7

Psalm 130:1–4 ESV
Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord! O Lord, hear my voice! Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my pleas for mercy! If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, that you may be feared.
Psalm 130:7 ESV
O Israel, hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with him is plentiful redemption.
Redemption in Christ; there was a transaction made on your behalf.
The great exchange is this: You give your sin to Jesus, and He gives you His Righteousness; forgiveness; life eternal in paradise: we call this salvation

Steadfast Love

Concise Oxford English Dictionary (Steadfast)
resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering.
Psalm 130:7 ESV
O Israel, hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with him is plentiful redemption.

Security for Israel

In THIS way:
Romans 11:25–26 ESV
Lest you be wise in your own sight, I do not want you to be unaware of this mystery, brothers: a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written, “The Deliverer will come from Zion, he will banish ungodliness from Jacob”;
Galatians 3:7 ESV
Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham.
If then I become a son of Abraham; a part of God’s renewed Israel by uniting to Christ through faith, then that redemption; namely the redemption of Christ, is mine.
I can cry out from my depths and expect God to hear and answer.
Church Family, once we realize that Christ Jesus IS our lifeline, we wait faithfully in the midst of life’s storms, expecting rescue, looking to seeing the fullness of redemption
