And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace. While he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue’s house, saying to him, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master. But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.
Old Testament:
There are two words written in the Old Testament that uses the word whole: Rapha and Tamim
Rapa- means to heal, to repair, to recover.
And shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter’s vessel, that cannot be made whole again: and they shall bury them in Tophet, till there be no place to bury.
Tamim- means perfect, without defect, blameless, without fault.
Behold, when it was whole, it was meet for no work: how much less shall it be meet yet for any work, when the fire hath devoured it, and it is burned?
Shelemah- to be finished, to be complete, to be at peace, to repay or make restitution, to be brought into peace, to fulfil a vow, to be fulfilled.
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Tyrus, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom, and remembered not the brotherly covenant:
New Testament:
Ischuo- to be able, to have strength, be good, have might.
But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.
Sozo- to save, to be well, to maintain, to preserve, to deliver, to protect.
This word also is translated in the New Testament as “save”.
The sick need a physician in order for them to be cured, in order for them to get better, in order for them to be well. The sinner needs Jesus or we need Jesus in order to be preserved, we need Jesus in order for us to be kept, we need Jesus in order for us to be protected, we need Jesus in order for us to be made well, we need Jesus in order for us to be saved. I need Jesus!
You cannot save yourselves, you can try to live a good life but it’s not going to be enough. You can try to live by a set of moral principles but it won’t suffice....you need Jesus to save you!
And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately.
