After the events of Genesis 3 a whole lot happened! There was a global flood, the Tower of Babel, and people are spreading over the planet. In the middle of everything happening and that had happened God was still working! We are introduced to a character in Genesis 12 named Abram (Abraham). Over the course of Genesis God will use Abraham to do some pretty bug stuff! He will win wars, see angels, and ultimately be the channel that Jesus comes from! God takes amazing care of Abram and there is so much we can learn from him!
When it was all said and done look at what God had to say about Abraham
Romans 4:3 (KJV 1900) For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
James 2:23 (KJV 1900)And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
Abraham believed God and was counted righteous!
God calls him righteous because he has faith in God and who HE is
Abrahams faith was “messy”
He didn’t always do right but that undo his faith!
God is merciful!
Abrahams Faith ( Genesis 12:1-9 )
God spoke and Abraham was listening
God is still speaking
Through his word
Are we listening?
2 Timothy 3:16 (KJV 1900) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness
Faith comes by hearing the word of God
Romans 10:17 (KJV 1900)So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
How are we receiving what God says? Are we listening?
James 1:21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
God told him to do something and he just did it ( Genesis 12:1 )
He obeyed by faith
Hebrews 11:8 (KJV 1900)By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went
God told him to do something crazy and he just did it!
God basically told him “Leave everything you’ve ever known and go to someplace you know nothing about”
and he did it!
God blessed his obedience! (Genesis 12:7-9 )
Obedience always yields blessings!
God would go on to constantly provide for him!
As we seek to obey God by faith he will provide for us!
Abraham’s messy faith
There was a famine (Genesis 12:10 )
Sometimes when we are following God there may be difficulties
Just know that he is there and can help!
Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
We live by faith
Romans 1:17
Abraham’s mess up (Genesis 12:10- 13)
Abraham doubted God’s protection and fled to Egypt
His doubt of who God was caused him to lie and others we’re afflicted because of his choice
Despite the fact Abraham messed up God was not done with him and was merciful with him!
We can never mess up too much for God’s mercy!
Abrahams Return( Genesis 13:1-4 )
Abraham returned back to the place where God him !
God forgave him and would go on to keep blessing him!
God is merciful!
Abraham was a man of faith and and example to us! That we are: Saved by faith, live by faith, and if we do mess up we can come back by faith!
Have you placed your faith in Christ?
Are you living by faith?
If you do mess up God is merciful!
