MT: How am I walking around my Wall
Intro
Good morning church
Name, honour and privilege to be sharing
Story: Prayer that God answer fast talk about the prayer to go to America with Andrew Ironside. 2016
Even prayer like God open my eyes to the opportunities you have for me and two min after God says go talk to that person
Let be honest sometimes we are surprised
Scripture that says ask and you shall receive
Then you have the times where there’s an opportunity for prayer and God speaks through the person praying for you
And you leave church feeling encouraged and believing that God has healed you
Then Monday comes
Today I’m going to be sharing on waiting on my miracle
Pray
Today we’ll look at the story of the wall of Jericho
Joshua 6:1-5
The Fall of Jericho
6 Now the gates of Jericho were tightly shut because the people were afraid of the Israelites. No one was allowed to go out or in.
2 But the Lord said to Joshua, “I have given you Jericho, its king, and all its strong warriors.
3 You and your fighting men should march around the town once a day for six days.
4 Seven priests will walk ahead of the Ark, each carrying a ram’s horn. On the seventh day you are to march around the town seven times, with the priests blowing the horns.
5 When you hear the priests give one long blast on the rams’ horns, have all the people shout as loud as they can. Then the walls of the town will collapse, and the people can charge straight into the town.”
Let’s just pause for a min
This is a people who before this walked around for 40 YEARS
Then God tells them that they’re about to enter the promise land
Let’s just put some flesh to this
Everyone in with us today all we’ve done all our lives is walk around the wilderness and we’ve heard story that Moses shared about a land flowing with milk and honey and God says it right there but there is a wall
I don’t know about you but I would be wanting God to just destroy the walls in an instant so we can walk in.
But we’ve got to walk around that wall
Relate this to us
The question we’ve got to ask ourselves is how am I going to walk around this wall
MT: HOW AM I WALKING AROUND MY WALL
This leads me to my first point
1. Remember what God says
Joshua 6:2
2 But the Lord said to Joshua, “I have given you Jericho, its king, and all its strong warriors.
God has already defeated the enemy
What we’ve got to remember is the scripture from
Ephesians 6:12
For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
But I understand when you’re in the valley/bottom or as I like to say sometime when you’re down I like to say when you’re in the trenches.
When you’re in that spot where all you see around you is walls.
We live in a physical world were what feel most of the times is based from what we see
But what we’ve got to remember is what God says
Remember his promises
Promise #1: I am your strength.
Promise #2: I will never leave you.
Promise #3: I have plans to prosper you.
Promise #4: I hear your prayers.
Promise #5: I will fight for you.
Promise #6: I will give you peace.
Promise #7: I always love you.
When you remember what God say it helps us move forward and keep mind on God as our hope. Instead of giving the wall to much attention
You know
Knowing the promises of God can help us in our daily lives, to be able to navigate both big and small decisions, and to conquer fear, temptation, and danger.
I was talking to someone the other day and they told me they’ve had a rough week. And how I responded was that means your alive.
Nehemiah was able to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem because he knew the promises of God and was able to confidently claim those promises as his own.
Jesus, too, was able to defeat the devil during his 40 days of temptation in the desert because he knew the Scriptures.
When we know what God has promised us, we can confidently claim those things in our own lives.
Church knowing the promises God has for us can help us in our daily lives
That’s why I believe the bible is still to this day relevant to us.
Because
God has put us here in this world for a plan and purpose
God has given us dreams and visions
God has given us passion like sports, music, teaching, learning
But we still face a wall
You know sometimes God will destroy the wall in one moment
But sometimes we need to walk around that wall
Sometimes you have to walk around that wall of sickness, addiction, family trouble, friendships problems, finical trouble.
How you going to walk around that wall?
Romans 12:2
2 Don’t copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
I commentary of this scripture and it really opened my eyes to the importance of knowing what God says
i. “I don’t want to be conformed to this world. I want to be transformed. How do I do it?” By the renewing of your mind. The problem with many Christians is they live life based on feelings, or they are only concerned about doing.
ii. The life based on feeling says, “How do I feel today? How do I feel about my job? How do I feel about my wife? How do I feel about worship? How do I feel about the preacher?” This life by feeling will never know the transforming power of God, because it ignores the renewing of the mind.
iii. The life based on doing says, “Don’t give me your theology. Just tell me what to do. Give me the four points for this and the seven keys for that.” This life of doing will never know the transforming power of God, because it ignores the renewing of the mind.
iv. God is never against the principles of feeling and doing. He is a God of powerful and passionate feeling and He commands us to be doers. Yet feelings and doing are completely insufficient foundations for the Christian life. The first questions cannot be “How do I feel?” or “What do I do?” Rather, they must be “What is true here? What does God’s Word say?”
Because you know it so easy to walk around that wall feeling defeated, feeling small, feeling God isn’t there.
Or
You can walk around that wall speaking God promises to that wall
2. Change my posture
Just like before we use Gods promises to help us when we feel the pressures of the wall
Instead of us walking around the wall feeling defeated by it we can stand up tall and worship God and praying to God
Pray in faith knowing that God has something instore for you on the other side
Because
The devil come like a roaring lion key word Like
When we walk around that wall with that posture and belief that God is in the middle of you and the wall, it changes our view of the wall
Because we know that our father is bigger.
Reminded of the promises
Promise #1: I am your strength.
Promise #2: I will never leave you.
Promise #3: I have plans to prosper you.
Promise #4: I hear your prayers.
Promise #5: I will fight for you.
Promise #6: I will give you peace.
Promise #7: I always love you.
And you know what God will give his joy that if everlasting it doesn’t rely on our circumstance
You always flip my brain that David was able to write all though psalm speaking about how good God is yet he is being chased and hunted to be killed at the same time
We must change our posture church from look at the wall to looking up at God.
[Bring someone up to demonstrate walking around with a changed posture]
sickness, addiction, family trouble, friendships problems, finical trouble, whatever it is
Tell the wall You know I see you but I Know God has made me a victor and I know this wall is here but I’m not going to give it anymore attention
We know that there will come a time when God will say shout and these walls will come down.
There will always be a day seven
Concluding
As worship teams comes up again.
I want to encourage you and ask how are you are walking around your wall?
Take a moment to pray
Remember the promises God has for us.
Promise #1: I am your strength.
Promise #2: I will never leave you.
Promise #3: I have plans to prosper you.
Promise #4: I hear your prayers.
Promise #5: I will fight for you.
Promise #6: I will give you peace.
Promise #7: I always love you.
