Recap
Once you taste the pure spirituality, you are really longing for
you can put away malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, slander
Now that you have tasted that the Lord is Good - you will see with different eyes.
A shift from Individuals to the spiritual house - The church
1 Peter 2:4–5 ESV
4 As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, 5 you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Who can be a part of the church?

As you are coming
You are welcome here
Keep coming to Jesus

What’s the church look like?

Jesus
Rejected by men
Brothers
Home town
Verbally assaulted multiple times
Arrested
Beaten
Jesus understands being alone and rejected
But God sees Jesus differently
Chosen & Precious
For God’s purposes
Uniquely favored by him
Where’s the disconnect come from?
Genesis 3:4–7 ESV
4 But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths.
The tension in scripture is that Humans see Jesus as a reject - God sees Jesus as chosen & precious.
So what does this mean for us?
Like living stones - Like Jesus
Are being built up as a spiritual house.”
Stone wall
Stones cannot command themselves to be built up
Or build themselves up
The builder builds them up - God builds his church!
Each of us is Chosen & Precious - Whole rocks apart of the whole house
A community rather than a collection of individuals
Not individuals like we think
cats vs beehive
What does the church look like?
A community of misfits trying to see how God builds us up

What's the role of the church?

“What is the house for?”
A holy priesthood
Mediating between the people and God - access to God in ways others weren’t allowed - to take human concerns before God and apply God’s forgiveness
Rise in status
Undercover Boss
Offer spiritual sacrifices
OT - animals but also prayer, thanksgiving, repentant heart
An OT Sacrifice had 2 elements - 1) something offered to God as worship and 2) social conduct
Dirty Job
Dedicate an hour a day to outward payer
Volunteering as a mentor in the elementary school
Volunteer one night a month Ladders of Hope
But it's not great?
Through Jesus

Conclusion:

What’s it take to be a part of the church?

Keep coming to Jesus

What does the church look like?

A community of misfit stones trying to see how God puts us together for his kingdom

What's the role of the church?

take human concerns to God and apply God’s forgiveness
by offering yourself to God as worship and caring for the society around you.
The way we see is not like it used to be. We see God at work building his house.
