What Prevents You From Being Water Baptism?
What Prevents You From Being Water Baptism?
Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture he preached Jesus to him.
As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch said, “Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?”
And Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”
Removing the Filter from the Text regarding Water Baptism!
Then Jesus arrived from Galilee at the Jordan coming to John, to be baptized by him.
But John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I have need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?”
But Jesus answering said to him, “Permit it at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he permitted Him.
After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him,
and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.”
When was Jesus Filled with the Spirit?
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
In What Way or Ways Is Jesus Our Example In Being Water Baptized?
Water Baptism Demonstrates:
I. Our OBEDIENCE to GOD!
But John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I have need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?”
But Jesus answering said to him, “Permit it at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he permitted Him.
What can we learn about SIN, RIGHTEOUSNESS and JUDGMENT from John 16:8?
“And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment;
Water Baptism is the Obedient response from someone who has Believed the Gospel:
“He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.
Water Baptism Demonstrates:
II. Our IDENTIFICATION with CHRIST!
Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?
For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection,
Water Baptism Demonstrates:
III. Our NOTIFICATION to our SOUL!
May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?
The Apostle Paul asks a great question: How shall WE who have DIED to SIN still live in IT?
Notice the answer he provides in 6:6 and pay close attention to the words KNOWING, IN ORDER THAT and SO THAT
knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin;
for he who has died is freed from sin.
Notice the instructions he provides to those of us who have died to sin:
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts,
and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
As a three-part being (Body, Soul and Spirit), we must notify our mind and heart (Soul), of the realities of our new identity IN CHRIST and water baptism is the perfect time to do so!
Water Baptism Demonstrates:
IV. Our INVITATION to our PAST!
Romans 6:4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through BAPTISM into death . . . 6 KNOWING THIS that our OLD SELF was CRUCIFIED with Christ, SO THAT our body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin!
When we are water baptized, we need to INVITE our PAST down into the watery grave with us because we KNOW that our Old Self was CRUCIFIED with Christ and we are inviting them to the funeral service!
Water Baptism Demonstrates:
V. Our DESTINY being UNLOCKED!
Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
If THEN is WHEN, When was Then for Jesus being led up by the Spirit?
There are two major points to remember about water baptism:
Baptism is a SYMBOL and it is part of our OBEDIENCE to God. When we are baptized BACKWARD we identify with the death, burial and resurrection of Christ!
Baptism is also a KEY and when we are baptized FORWARD the revelation in our soul UNLOCKS our FREEDOM from sin and launches us into our DESTINY as Sons and Daughters of God!
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
