Introduction

Faithful fathers are necessary for stable families.
Faithful fathers understand and undertake their role in the home as dictated in the Word of God.
The moral breakdown in American society is due, in a large measure, to the failure of men to assume their God-ordained roles.
There is no adequate substitute in the home for a strong and spiritual father.
The father ought to do for his human family what our Heavenly Father does for His family.
The message this morning is entitled
“The Faithful Father”
The Text is found in:
Joshua 24:15 (NKJV)
15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

1. The Faithful Father Assumes His Duties

The faithful father is aware of his duty to his Creator.
The greatest commandment for a father is to love God with all of his being.
The faithful father fulfills his duty toward his companion.
His first priority is to his Creator, the second to his companion.
He loves his wife with an unselfish love. His leadership is godly, gracious, and gentle.
Under God’s decree, he provides all that is necessary for the well being of his companion.
The faithful father carries out his duty to his children.
The responsibility of training depends greatly upon the father’s role.
The home is a place of instruction, interaction, interdependence,
a place of instilling values, and a place of intimacy.
The father is a verbal teacher.
That is, he instructs or speaks the truth to his children as he gives the precepts and principles of God’s Word to them.
The father is a visual teacher.
What he teaches verbally he puts into practice. By his daily life, he becomes a model and pattern for his children to imitate.
The father is a vital teacher.
Faithful fathers teach their children with consistency and competency.
His effective teaching must be coupled with compassion for the children and a comprehension of the children’s needs.
Fathers will give an account to God for the training and teaching of their children.
Life is filled with hidden dangers

2. The Faithful Father Avoids Hidden Dangers

Selfishness is a danger that the faithful father faces.
Quite often fathers push their children into vocations or life styles which please them rather than freeing the child to do the will of God.
Slackness is a similar danger. Eli’s house was judged because he refused to restrain his sons from wickedness (1 Sam. 3:13).
In today’s permissive society, it is too easy to allow one’s children to run with the crowd.
Fathers must never be guilty of ignoring the lifestyle of their children.
Every father must give biblical direction to his children. A child left to himself brings the parent to shame.
Slothfulness plagues the human race. Many fathers are just too lazy to fulfill their Scriptural duty.
They neglect the responsibility until one day it is too late.
The father who is too lazy to get involved with his children while they are young often lives to regret this fatal mistake.
Severity is another danger that fathers face. Colossians 3:21 declares, “Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.” (nkjv)
Ephesians 6:4 warns, “And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.” (nkjv)
It seems clear from these passages that it is possible for a father to so impose regulations and restrictions on his children that they find it impossible to live up to his expectations.
Caution must be exercised lest fathers lose sensitivity for their children.
Sinfulness stalks the best fathers. Fathers must never justify or condone sin in their lives while condemning it in the lives of their children.
Fathers who would, effectively lead value personal discipline. A father must control his tongue, taste, and temper.
Let us look for the highest commendation in father's

3. The Faithful Father Anticipates Honorable Dividends

Faithfulness produces a spirit of contentment.
Another dividend is commendation.
The Saints, and the society in which he resides will commend the father who by God’s grace effectively leads his family in the ways of the Lord.
Godly families are a standing tribute to the faithful father.
A final dividend of the faithful father is compensation.
Money cannot buy what the faithful father enjoys as he views the godly life style of his wife and children.
His is the satisfying compensation of a job well done.

Conclusion:

The motto of the faithful father is
Joshua 24:15 “… as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Every father needs to ask himself the following questions:
Am I the father I want to be?
Am I the father God wants me to be?
Am I the father my family expects me to be?
To be a successful father you need help!
Do you know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Personal Savior?

John 3:16 NKJV
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
As we bow our heads:
Repeat after me:
1. Lord I believe that Jesus is the son of God, and that He died On the cross for my sins and His resurrection from the dead gives me eternal life. I asked forgiveness of my sins, and I Except Jesus as my Lord and Savior. In his name I Pray, amen.
