Father’s Day

Father’s Day 2021
Mark 2:1–12 NKJV
1 And again He entered Capernaum after some days, and it was heard that He was in the house. 2 Immediately many gathered together, so that there was no longer room to receive them, not even near the door. And He preached the word to them. 3 Then they came to Him, bringing a paralytic who was carried by four men. 4 And when they could not come near Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where He was. So when they had broken through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying. 5 When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.” 6 And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, 7 “Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” 8 But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves, He said to them, “Why do you reason about these things in your hearts? 9 Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise, take up your bed and walk’? 10 But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”—He said to the paralytic, 11 “I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.” 12 Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went out in the presence of them all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!”
Mark 2:1-12
One of the hardest but most rewarding jobs in the world is being a father.
As a dad you are commissioned by God to be the leader of your family
and blessed by God in the joy of this overwhelming responsibility.
Psalm 127:3–5 NKJV
3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. 4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. 5 Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.
Mark 2:1-12
This is nothing less than extraordinary! If these men would do this for a
friend what father wouldn’t do the more for his children? I want to share
four things this morning that drove these men to help their friend.
1. Devoted to their Friend; 1-3
Mark 2:1–3 NKJV
1 And again He entered Capernaum after some days, and it was heard that He was in the house. 2 Immediately many gathered together, so that there was no longer room to receive them, not even near the door. And He preached the word to them. 3 Then they came to Him, bringing a paralytic who was carried by four men.
 Their friend had a need and Jesus was the answer. When they
heard Jesus was back in town, they immediately prepared for
their journey.
 How much do you love your child? When did you start planning
your journey to bring them to Jesus?
 Your children are just like this paralytic! Helpless, need to be
carried, broken/paralyzed (sin)
 Dad’s, are you devoted to seeing your children made whole in
Christ?
Proverbs 2:1–5 NKJV
1 My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, 2 So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; 3 Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, 4 If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; 5 Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, And find the knowledge of God.
2. Determined in their Purpose; 4
Mark 2:4 NKJV
4 And when they could not come near Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where He was. So when they had broken through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying.
 These men didn’t let a crowd stop them from fulfilling their
purpose, getting their friend to Jesus! They altered their plan to
meet their goal.
 Are you as determined to bring your kids to Jesus? Or do you let
the crowd/circumstances detour your purpose?
1 John 2:16 NKJV
16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.
 (1 John 2:16) the pull of friends, family and things of the world are
the crowds and circumstances that can derail your purpose
3. Dogmatic in their Faith; 5-11
Mark 2:5–11 NKJV
10 But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”—He said to the paralytic, 11 “I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.”
 Dogmatic- principles that won’t be compromised, ironclad
 Faith- confident assurance, complete trust
 These men stayed true to their belief that if they could get their
friend to Jesus, he would be healed.
James 2:14–20 NKJV
14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?
 (James 2:14-20) I believe Jesus stopped speaking and started
smiling as he watched the faith of these men
 We need to be dogmatic in our faith in Christ to do the same for
our children despite what others think.
 People will question your beliefs and condemn your actions of
making your children go to church, but you must stay dogmatic!
 It takes hard work, time, and a lot of energy but it will pay off.
4. Delighted in their Expectations; 12
Mark 2:12 NKJV
12 Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went out in the presence of them all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!”
 Jesus exceeded their expectations. Their friend got up and
walked in newness of life in Christ!
 This man came to Jesus broken on his bed, and now gets up,
grabs his mat, and walks out through the crowd
2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation;
old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
 When our child comes to faith in Christ you will be delighted!
Close;
Dads, I want to encourage you this morning to love your kids and make it
your purpose in life to bring them to Jesus. That will take devotion,
determination, be dogmatic, and delight yourself in the Lord!
Psalm 37:4 NKJV
4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the
desires of your heart.
